A container that is a cup portion having a maximum gauge of less than 35 mils provided with a bottom panel, a sidewall and a sealing brim which defines an annular cup sealing surface; and a lid having a maximum gauge of less than 35 mils with a sealing rim defining an annular lid sealing surface; wherein the cup portion and lid portion are thermoformed such that the annular cup sealing surface and the annular lid sealing surface cooperate to form a seal extending around the assembled container and wherein the container does not leak when tested using the Leak Test Method

A disposable servingware container press-formed from paperboard includes (a) a bottom panel; (b) an annular transition portion; and (c) an outer portion extending upwardly and outwardly with respect to the transition portion, the container having an outer surface and an inner surface distal to the outer surface, the inner surface being adapted as a serving surface. The paperboard is infused with a wax composition on one side thereof in an amount of at least 3 lbs of wax per 3000 ftream such that the paperboard is partially saturated with wax and has a wax-enriched layer proximate one side thereof and a layer undersaturated with wax proximate the other side thereof.

A method of making a texture-coated and/or insulation coated container from a flat paperboard blank in which a heat-hardenable liquid polymeric binder texturizing and/or insulating agent coating mixture is applied to one surface of the blank in a pattern of covered and open areas. This coating mixture is subjected to heat to cure the polymeric binder and expand the texturizing and/or insulating agent, optionally treated with moisture, and optionally heated to form the blank into the shape of a container, and the container produced by this method. The containers such as cups, plates, etc., are useful in food service. These containers have a coefficient of static friction which is about 0.2 to 2.0 and over and a kinetic coefficient of friction which is about 0.22 to 1.5.

Paperboard containers having improved bulk insulation properties

An improved paperboard has been bulk enhanced by retaining a substantial portion of bulk-enhanced additives including expandable microspheres in a suitable distribution within the paperboard. The cellulosic paperboard web has an overall fiber weight (w) of at least 40 lbs. per 3000 square feet and, at a fiber density of 3, 4.5, 6.5, 7, 8.3, and 9 pounds per 3000 square foot ream at a fiberboard thickness of 0.001 inches, has a GM Taber stiffness of at least about 0.00246 wgrams-centimeter/fiber mat density, and a GM tensile stiffness of at least about 615+13.18 w pounds per inch. The high retention of the bulk enhancing additives is believed to result from the incorporation of suitable retention aids. The resulting paperboard has better GM Taber stiffness values and GM tensile stiffness than prior art paperboards. The paperboard also has increased strain to failure and is able to be formed into suitable paperboard containers without loss of integrity. The resulting containers have increased hold times when they contain hot or cold food or drink.

Coated paperboards and paperboard containers having improved tactile and bulk insulation properties

A high gloss, disposable pressed paperboard food container includes a glossy bilayer finish. The container is formed in a heated die set from a paperboard substrate provided with a first finish coating layer consisting essentially of a styrene-butadiene resin composition and a second, top coating finish layer consisting essentially of an acrylic resin composition applied to the first finish coating layer. The products of the invention typically exhibit a 60&#xb0; gloss of greater than about 40 gloss units, as well as reduced moisture pickup and enhanced rigidity.

The invention is directed to a container press-formed of paperboard having a top surface disposed for contact with material to be contained and an opposed bottom surface, the container comprising a first functional coating material such as a latex dispersed in the paperboard without forming a barrier to moisture. The invention also encompasses a method of manufacturing the press-formed paperboard container comprising before the container is press-formed the step of applying to the bottom surface of the paperboard a moistening solution comprising latex solids in an amount selected to avoid forming a moisture barrier and to avoid blistering on the bottom surface during press forming.

The high retention of the bulk enhancing additives is believed to result from the incorporation of suitable retention aids. The resulting paperboard has better GM Taber stiffness values and GM tensile stiffness than prior art paperboards. The paperboard also has increased strain to failure and is able to be formed into suitable paperboard containers without loss of integrity. The resulting containers have increased hold times when they contain hot or cold food or drink.

Bulk enhanced paperboard and shaped products made therefrom

An apparatus for applying a high solids coating to a surface of a base product is provided. The apparatus includes a rotatable coating roll that opposes a feeding roll. The rolls combine to define a nip portion through which a base product is passed. A cleaning blade is disposed in contact with the coating roll and a calendar box is disposed adjacent the surface of the coating roll.

Apparatus for producing coated base products

A method of applying a coating to a surface of a base product that includes providing a calender stack that includes a rotatable king roll and a feeding roll is provided. The king roll is opposed to the feeding roll to define a nip portion between the rolls. A cleaning blade is provided and placed in contact with the king roll and a calender box is provided and placed adjacent a surface of the king roll. A coating material is applied to the surface of the king roll utilizing the calender box. A base product is passed through the nip portion to apply the coating material to a surface of the base product to form the coating thereon.

Coated base products, apparatus and process for producing same

A disposable filter press device for making a brewed beverage from a combination of liquid and material to be brewed includes a first disposable cup and a second disposable cup. The first disposable cup has a closed bottom, an open top and a sidewall extending around the entire circumferential extent of the first cup, while the second disposable cup is sized and configured to be positioned in the first cup. The second cup has a bottom end, an open top and a sidewall extending around the entire circumferential extent of the second cup. The second cup also includes a filter for filtering the brewed beverage from the material used to brew the brewed beverage as the second cup is moved relative to the first cup. The filter press device can also be provided with a mechanism for connecting the second cup to the first cup with the second cup being in an inverted, bottom end up position. The filter press device provides enhanced beverage taste over conventional drip brewed coffee, coffee ground or tea leaf separation from the brewed beverage, a spill proof closure of the brewed beverage cup, and improved insulation and structural rigidity of the cup both during and after brewing. Also, single-cup brewing, disposability and convenience are realized.

Disposable beverage brewing system

A laminate product having both improved grease, oil, wax and solvent repellency and improved glueability and printability properties. The laminate comprises a substrate, at least one layer of a fluorine containing polymer moiety on at least one surface of the substrate and at least one layer comprising a latex on the at least one layer of a fluorine containing polymer moiety layer. Preferably there are more than one fluorine containing polymer moiety layers. Preferably there are more than one layers comprising a latex. A container is constructed from the said laminate. A process for decreasing the contact angle of grease, oil, wax and solvent involving applying the layers to a substrate.
