A method for in-situ measurement of a thickness of a coating deposited by a deposition process, includes the steps of initiating deposition within a deposition chamber such that a first coating forms on an outer surface of a probe disposed in the deposition chamber, wherein the probe comprises a coil assembly including at least one coil, wherein the probe is separated by a distance from a substrate disposed within the deposition chamber; exciting the coil assembly with a first alternating current to produce a first time-varying magnetic field, the first time-varying magnetic field generating an eddy current in the first coating; determining a metric related to an inductance or resistance of the coil assembly, wherein a value of the metric is related to a first thickness of the first coating and results at least partially from an eddy current magnetic field produced by an eddy current in the coating; and correlating the first thickness of the first coating to a second thickness of a second coating deposited on a surface of the substrate.

In-situ deposition thickness monitoring

A laminated glass structure for an electronic device includes: a core glass layer having a first coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE); and a plurality of clad glass layers, each having a CTE that is lower than or equal to the first CTE of the core glass layer. A first of the clad glass layers is laminated to a first surface of the core glass layer and a second of the clad layers is laminated to a second surface of the core glass layer. Further, the total thickness of the core glass layer and the clad glass layers ranges from about 0.1 mm to about 3 mm. In addition, each of the first of the clad layers and the core glass layer comprises a loss tangent of 0.006 or less for signals having a frequency of 1 GHz to about 100 GHz.

Laminated glass structures for electronic devices and electronic device substrates

A liquid lens comprising: a lens body including a cavity, a control electrode, and a common electrode; a first liquid disposed within the cavity and in electrical communication with the common electrode; a second liquid disposed within the cavity; an insulating layer in contact with the first liquid and the second liquid and separating the first liquid and the second liquid from the control electrode; and a driver driving a voltage differential across the common electrode and the control electrode, with the first liquid resisting current flow between the common electrode and the control electrode and thereby raising a temperature of the first liquid from a current temperature to a predetermined temperature, which is higher than the current temperature. The driver raises the temperature of the first liquid from the current temperature to the predetermined temperature by increasing a frequency of a voltage waveform of the voltage differential.

Self-heating liquid lens and self-heating methods for the same

Embodiments of the disclosure relate to an antenna device. The antenna device includes a glass sheet having a first major surface and a second major surface opposite to the first major surface. The first major surface and the second major surface define a thickness of the glass sheet. The antenna device also includes at least one patch antenna. Each of the at least one patch antenna includes a first metallic layer that is located within the thickness of the glass sheet at or below the first major surface. Additionally, the antenna device includes a ground plane comprising a second metallic layer that is located within the thickness of the glass sheet at or below the second major surface.

In some embodiments, a passivation layer is disposed within the cavity such that the shielding layer is between the passivation layer and the glass substrate. A method for forming a glass fan-out includes depositing a shielding layer within a cavity in a glass substrate. The glass substrate includes a glass cladding layer fused to a glass core layer. A silicon chip may be deposited within the cavity. In some embodiments, the method also includes depositing a passivation layer within the cavity such that the shielding layer is between the passivation layer and the glass substrate.

Precision structured glass article having EMI shielding and methods for making the same

A laminated glass structure is provided that includes: a core glass layer having a first coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE); and a plurality of clad glass layers, each having a CTE that is lower than or equal to the first CTE of the core glass layer. A first of the clad layers is laminated to a first surface of the core glass layer and a second of the clad layers is laminated to a second surface of the core glass layer. Further, the total thickness of the core glass layer and the clad glass layers ranges from about 0.1 mm to about 3 mm. In addition, the laminated glass structure is characterized by a transmission power of at least 75% and at least 55% for signals at 28 GHz and 60 GHz, respectively, as calculated in a Three-Layer Model.

A hollow glass waveguide and related method are provided. The microwave waveguide includes a glass body including a first end, a second end, an outer glass surface extending between the first end and the second end, an inner glass surface defining a hollow channel that extends from the first end to the second end and a glass material between the outer surface and the inner surface. The microwave waveguide includes a layer of metal embedded in the glass body. The layer of metal surrounds the hollow channel when viewed in cross-section and extends between the first end and the second end of the glass body. The layer of metal is electrically conductive and the hollow channel is dimensioned such that microwaves introduced into the hollow channel are conducted along the hollow channel between the first end and the second end.

An organic light emitting diode (OLED) incorporating an enhanced light extraction apparatus in the transparent conductive oxide layer is disclosed. The apparatus for light extraction may comprise a transparent substrate, a transparent electrode comprising one or more discontinuities, and an organic light emitting material stack. The transparent electrode may be disposed on the transparent substrate and comprise a series of features or discontinuities that enhance light extraction improve energy efficiency in the OLED device. The discontinuities may be discrete or continuous and may interrupt the conductivity of the transparent conductive oxide layer.

Fiber optic array cables and related systems and methods to determine and/or track locations of objects are disclosed. The fiber optic array cables can be employed in an optical-fiber-based communication system, including a centralized optical-fiber based communication system. In one embodiment, the fiber optic array cable is configured to carry optical RF or radio-over-fiber (RoF) signals to establish communications with objects. The fiber optic array cable includes multiple reference units along the length of the cable. The reference units can be configured to convert received optical RF signals into electrical RF signals to establish RF communications with objects capable of receiving electrical RF signals. The reference units are also configured to convert received electrical RF signals from the objects into optical RF signals, which are then used to determine the location of the object. Having the availability of the multiple reference units on one or more the fiber optic array cables can provide enhanced reliability in tracking objects.

Location tracking using fiber optic array cables and related systems and methods

An electrically conductive article that includes a monolithic glass body having a first primary surface; and an electrically conducting element formed in the body. The element includes a discrete layer, or a plurality of discrete layers, of metallic silver. Each layer has a thickness T such that 0.1 &#x3bc;m&#x2264;T&#x2264;0.5 &#x3bc;m and an electrical resistivity of about 50 n&#x3a9;&#xb7;m to about 2000 n&#x3a9;&#xb7;m. In addition, the element is spaced apart from the first primary surface by a distance D, wherein 0.1 &#x3bc;m&#x2264;D&#x2264;20 &#x3bc;m. In some aspects, the electrically conducting element and/or the monolithic glass body are configured as an antenna assembly, an optical fiber or a flexible glass substrate.
