A novel agricultural mulch and improved method of arranging the mulch on a growing field with furrows is disclosed wherein the mulch is made of an extensible paper substrate having a top surface and a bottom surface with side sections near the edges of the substrate capable of being turned up and bent back over the top surface of the paper substrate as the mulch is laid down over the growing field; the bottom surface of the paper substrate will be exposed for receiving soil from the field to anchor the mulch and protect it against the weathering of rain, sun and wind.

Agricultural mulch with extended longevity

A novel agricultural mulch is disclosed comprising a paper substrate having coated thereon on the top and bottom side film forming latexes resistant to water permeability. The superior paper mulch according to the invention is degradable but possesses most of the beneficial aspects of polyethylene-type mulches.

Thermally-responsive record materials are described containing a 'complex' material formed from interactions at high pH between zinc stearate and ammonia and/or zinc stearate, ammonia and zinc oxide. The use of these materials in thermally-responsive sheets improves thermal image response and/or improves resistance to thermal image decline upon exposure to elevated temperature.

A high sensitivity thermal paper resistant to image erasure is disclosed. The thermal paper has a color-forming composition comprising a chromogenic material, an acidic developer material, a water insoluble polymer consisting of poly .alpha.-methylstyrene or .alpha.-methylstyrene/vinyltoluene copolymer, and a thermal modifier. Preferably the thermal modifier is selected from acetoacet-o-toluidine, diphenoxyethane, phenyl-1-hydroxy-2-naphthoate, diheptadecyl ketone and octadecanamide. The disclosed composition when thermally imaged is surprisingly resistant to image erasure and smearing attributable to fingerprint oils.
