A control system can be used for a walk-behind self-propelled machine that includes a handle, a power source, a drive assembly, and an implement selectively driven by the power source. The control system can include a touch sensor located on the handle configured to transmit a contact signal indicative of an operator of the walk-behind self-propelled machine physically contacting the handle at a predetermined location. The system can further include a controller that is in electrical communication with the touch sensor and configured to enable the power source to drive the implement, such as a lawnmower blade, when the controller receives the contact signal.

The control lever can have a first end comprising a grip portion, a second end connected to the control cable, and at least one protrusion extending from the control lever, and the lever guide can be configured to selectively retain the at least one protrusion in any of one or more angular positions corresponding to one or more deflector positions.

The convertible lawnmower includes a cutter housing having a discharge opening, an engine mount centrally positioned on the cutter housing, a prime mover supported on the engine mount, a rotary mulching blade coupled to the prime mover to rotate in a cutting plane about a rotation axis within the cutter housing, a cover and a fin extending from the cover toward the cutting plane. The cover is movably mounted within the cutter housing in a plane parallel to the cutting plane and between a full bagging position where the discharge opening is unobstructed by the cover and a full mulching position where the cover obstructs the discharge opening.
