A plurality of identification bracelets removably attached to one another, each bracelet having a first end which includes a cover tab and a second end defining a closure tab having an adhesive portion. The cover tab of a second bracelet removably overlies the adhesive portion of a closure tab of an adjacent first identification bracelet. Upon separating the first and second bracelets, the adhesive portion of the first bracelet is exposed and the cover tab remains with the second bracelet as it is removed. The adhesive portion of the closure tab of the first bracelet is adhered to a surface of the first bracelet as it is moved from an open position to a closed position encircling an object to be identified.

An improved identification band such as a wristband is provided for mounting onto a specific person or object. The improved identification band includes a primary identification zone adapted to receive human-readable and/or machine readable information as by printing and/or programming of a radio frequency identification (RFID) circuit. The band further includes multiple detachable adhesive labels forming a portion of the band and multiple detachable cards forming a tail end extension thereof, wherein each label is adapted to receive human-readable and/or machine readable information as by printing and/or programming of a radio frequency identification (RFID) circuit. In use, such as when worn by a patient in a hospital or the like, the detachable labels and cards are individually separable from the identification band on an as-needed basis for association with other objects associated with the band wearer, such as a vial containing a patient blood sample or the like.

An identification band for attachment to an individual or object includes an at least partially non-transparent elongated hollow body having first and second opposite ends. The body also includes a substantially flat intermediate portion with top and bottom surfaces and semi-circular edges, and a pair of fastening openings formed respectively at the first and second ends. A connector is configured for interference fit reception into the fastening openings for removably attaching the first and second ends of the body. The connector is removable from the fastening openings and adapted for subsequent assembly and re-use with a replacement body. A machine readable radio frequency identification chip is associated with the body, and an antenna is operatively connected to the chip.

A band for carrying information including a first band section having a bottom side, a first bonding layer disposed over a significant portion of the bottom side and a circuit, configured to carry information, bonded to the bottom of the first band section. The bonding layer may use adhesive or thermal bonds. The band also includes a second band section having a top side and a bottom side, where the top side is bonded to the bottom side of the first band section such that a continuous portion of the first and second band sections are bonded around the entire circuit. The band further includes a second adhesive layer disposed over a significant portion of the bottom side of the second band section and a release section having a top side, the top side bonded to the bottom side of the second band section.

An identification bracelet includes an integral adhesive closure which permits the bracelet to be formed in a virtually uniform thickness. The bracelet is formed of laminates that are relatively permanently bonded to each other over a majority of the body of the bracelet, with a movable cover portion formed as part of one or more of the laminates. The cover portion is adapted to be moved from a covering relationship to a non-covering relationship with respect to an adhesive disposed between two or more of the laminates. The cover may be removable from the bracelet, and may be configured with gripping portions to permit ready manipulation of the cover from the aforesaid covering relationship to the non-covering relationship. A plurality of such bracelets may be provided in a flexible strip, and a method of use of such a strip includes dispensing the strip through a printer or similar indicia-producing device and detaching each encoded bracelet from the strip and affixing same to a person or object corresponding to the encoded information.

An identification wristband is fabricated from transparent synthetic plastic and has a flattened central area wherein the inner surfaces of the central area are relatively close to each other and opposite edges communicating with the central area, which are substantially semi-circular in cross section, provide a receptacle for an information card or tag inserted in the band and the flattened area of the band facilitates the viewing of the information on the card. A connector is provided which is of substantially elliptical configuration in cross section and includes an abutment intermediate its extremities. The opposite extremities of the connector are receivable in the opposite extremities of the band body and, when inserted in the band body, distend the extremities to correspond to the elliptical configuration of the connector, thus causing a frictional grip to be exerted upon the extremities of the band body. The abutment is engaged on its opposite sides by the respective extremities of the band body and the elliptical perimeter of the abutment constitutes a smooth continuum of the extremities of the band body.

An identification device which includes blank band having an imprintable surface upon which information in the form of a bar code or the like can be imprinted in a conventional bar code imprinting machine. Various bands are provided with separate fasteners which are assembled with the band after the imprinting and which, when the band is located on a person or object, lock the band against undesirable removal of the band.

A closure means for an identification band or bracelet includes integrally formed, unidirectionally engagement means to permit the bracelet to be further tightened, but not loosened, after assembly of the bracelet about a portion of a person or an object. In the preferred embodiment, the closure includes a body portion that is attached to a first end of the bracelet, and an opening to receive the second end of the bracelet after the bracelet has been placed in an encircling relationship about the person or object to be identified. The body portion is preferably configured as a sleeve having a rectangular cross-section, with one or more deformable mounting posts configured to be placed through a corresponding one or more mating openings in the first end of the bracelet and thereafter deformed to retain the first end of the bracelet on the body portion. Also in the preferred embodiment, the engagement means includes one or more protruding teeth having biting extremities adjacent the opening in the body portion. The teeth are oriented to permit the second end to slide past them as the end is inserted further through the opening, but to bite into the second end upon any attempt to withdraw it from the opening.
