A multi-pin pin impactor and method of use are described. The pin impactor includes a body which can be held by a user and manipulated to re-position the pin impactor during use. First and second pin holders are attached to the body and each include a pin release mechanism effective to releasably retain a pin within the pin holder. An impaction can have a force applied to apply a driving force to a one of the pins. In use, a first pin held by the pin impactor is introduced into an aperture in a surgical instrument mounted on a bone. A force is applied to the pin impactor to drive the first pin into the bone. The orientation or position of the pin impactor is changed to introduce a second pin held by the pin impactor into a second aperture in the surgical instrument without re-loading the pin impactor and a force is applied to the pin impactor to drive the second pin into the bone.

Pin impactor

A surgical instrument for attachment to a cutting block having a cutting slot defining a cutting plane is described. The surgical instrument comprises a dual purpose indicator () member. The indicator member is configured to (i) allow visualization of a first plane and (ii) to indicate a predetermined distance from a second plane perpendicular to the first plane. The surgical instrument also comprises an attachment member () for attaching the surgical instrument to the cutting slot in either of two mutually perpendicular orientations such that either the first plane or the second plane is parallel to the cutting plane. The surgical instrument can therefore be used both to visualize a plane of a cut and to indicate a distance from the plane of a cut, depending on the orientation of the attachment member in the cutting slot. This allows inventory to be reduced because the surgical instrument can replace two prior art instruments. The surgical instrument may form part of a system with one or more cutting blocks.

A surgical resection guide comprising: a housing (); a stylus arm () extending through the housing () arranged such that when the housing () is coupled to the side of a bone, a tip of the stylus arm () is arranged to contact an end of a bone; and a linear adjustment mechanism. The linear adjustment mechanism comprises: a shaft () at least partially received within a bore extending through the housing () such that the shaft () can slide along its longitudinal axis relative to the housing (), the shaft () incorporating a shaft tooth or groove (); and a dial () rotatably coupled to the housing () and incorporating a helical dial groove or rib () defining a longitudinal axis offset from the longitudinal axis of the shaft (). The shaft tooth or groove () engages the dial groove or rib () such that rotating the dial () relative to the housing () causes the shaft tooth or groove () to slide along the dial groove or rib () causing the shaft () to slide within the bore along its longitudinal axis. The housing () and the stylus arm () can rotate about the shaft () without causing the shaft () to slide within its bore along its longitudinal axis. A method of adjusting the surgical resection guide is also disclosed.

A surgical resection guide comprising: a housing (); a stylus arm () extending through the housing () and a linear adjustment mechanism. The linear adjustment mechanism comprises: a shaft () at least partially received within a bore extending through the housing () such that the shaft () can slide along its longitudinal axis relative to the housing (), the shaft () incorporating a shaft tooth (); and a dial () rotatably coupled to the housing () and incorporating a helical dial groove () defining a longitudinal axis offset from the longitudinal axis of the shaft (). The shaft tooth () engages the dial groove () such that rotating the dial () relative to the housing () causes the shaft tooth () to slide along the dial groove () causing the shaft () to slide within the bore along its longitudinal axis. The housing () and the stylus arm () can rotate about the shaft () without causing the shaft () to slide within its bore along its longitudinal axis.

An assembly for use in a procedure for implantation of an orthopedic joint component, comprises a head part of the joint component which has a tapered bore within it, and a connector part which is tapered inwardly along its length so that it can be received snugly in the tapered bore in the head part, the connector part having a bore within it. A tool includes a spigot which fits snugly into the bore in the connector part. Each of the tool and the connector part has a face which contact one another when the spigot on the tool is fully received in the bore in the connector part, and in which each of the said faces extends generally transverse relative to the aligned axes of the spigot and the bore.
