A ball float vent valve includes a valve body having an inlet port, an outlet port and an axial passageway there-between. The passageway may be defined by a cylindrical inlet chamber, a cylindrical outlet chamber and a tapered seat connecting the inlet chamber and outlet chamber. The outlet chamber may include an annular retaining groove proximate the outlet port. A spherical float may be positioned in the outlet chamber. The float may be dimensioned to seal the passageway when seated on the tapered seat. A retainer positioned in the retaining groove may include an outer crescent region having a plurality of apertures, a center region dimensioned to retain the float in the outlet chamber, and a linking region connecting the outer region to the center region.

A work machine includes an electric drive system. The work machine includes a prime mover, a machine controller, and a hydraulic control system. The hydraulic control system includes a pump, a control valve and a retarding control valve. The pump is configured to supply pressurized fluid to the hydraulic control system via a supply line. The control valve is fluidly coupled to the pump via the supply line, and includes a pressure relief valve. The retarding control valve is fluidly connected to the pump and the control valve. The retarding control valve includes a solenoid valve, an orifice and a check valve. The solenoid valve is coupled to the machine controller, the orifice restricts a flow of the pressurized fluid through the supply line, and the check valve is coupled to a discharge line, which branches from a point along the supply line between the solenoid valve and the orifice.

Hydraulic retarding control system

A monitoring system includes a hydraulic cylinder including a piston movably disposed therein. At least one seal is provided within the hydraulic cylinder. A head end pressure sensor is configured to monitor pressure of a hydraulic fluid in a head space. A rod end pressure sensor is configured to monitor pressure of the fluid in a rod space. A displacement sensor is configured to monitor the position of the piston. A temperature sensor is disposed and configured to monitor the temperature of the hydraulic fluid. An electronic control unit is in communication with the sensors and programmed to in response to receiving pressure signals from the pressure sensors, position signals from the position sensor, and temperature signals from the temperature sensor, determine a wear volume of the at least one seal; and compare the wear volume of the at least one seal to a predetermined threshold wear volume of the at least one seal to determine the remaining useful life of the hydraulic cylinder.

Hydraulic cylinder health monitoring and remaining life system

A monitoring system includes a hydraulic accumulator including a piston movably disposed therein. At least one seal encompasses the piston. A first pressure sensor is configured to monitor pressure of a first fluid in a first chamber. A second pressure sensor is configured to monitor pressure of a second fluid in a second chamber. A first temperature sensor is disposed in the first chamber and configured to monitor the temperature of the first fluid. A second temperature sensor is disposed in the second chamber and configured to monitor the temperature of the second fluid. An electronic control unit is in communication with the sensors and programmed to in response to receiving pressure signals from the pressure sensors and temperature signals from the temperature sensors, determine a wear volume of the at least one seal; and compare the wear volume of the at least one seal to a predetermined threshold wear volume of the at least one seal to determine the remaining useful life of the hydraulic accumulator.

Hydraulic accumulator health monitoring and remaining life system

A hydraulic control system for a machine is provided. The hydraulic control system includes a fluid reservoir and a pump motor. The pump motor is fluidly coupled to the fluid reservoir. The pump motor is configured to provide pressurized fluid and to receive fluid to provide a power output to the shaft. The hydraulic control system further includes an actuator and an accumulator fluidly coupled to the pump motor and the actuator. The hydraulic control system further includes an accumulator valve and a controller. The accumulator valve is fluidly coupled between the accumulator and the pump motor. The controller is in communication with the pump motor and the accumulator valve. The controller is configured to detect an operator command to operate the power source; determine pressure at the accumulator; and selectively move the accumulator valve to fluidly connect the accumulator with the pump motor.

System and method of hydraulic energy recovery for machine start-stop and machine ride control

Engine anti-idling and restart may be implemented in a machine having a power source, a movable work tool, a pump driven by the power source, an actuator receiving fluid from the pump and moving the work tool, a high-pressure fluid reservoir, and an assist motor operatively connected to the power source. Engine restart may include detecting operator input to start the power source, and fluidly connecting the fluid reservoir to the assist motor to assist in starting the power source in response to detecting the operator input. Prior to shutting down the power source during anti-idling, fluid from the pump may be input to the assist motor, pressurized and communicated to the high-pressure fluid reservoir in response to determining that idle condition exists and a reservoir charge pressure is less than a reservoir minimum restart pressure needed to restart the power source.

Integration of swing energy recovery and engine anti-idling systems

A fluid system for a machine that includes a linkage. The fluid system includes an actuator, an accumulator, a pilot circuit, and a pressure reducing valve. The actuator is configured to manipulate the linkage. The accumulator is configured to store a fluid discharged by the actuator under pressure. The pilot circuit is fluidly coupled to the accumulator and is configured to receive the fluid from the accumulator. Further, the pressure reducing valve is positioned between the accumulator and the pilot circuit to regulate the pressure of the fluid delivered to the pilot circuit from the accumulator.

A hydraulic control system for a machine is provided. The hydraulic control system includes a fluid reservoir, a pump motor and an accumulator. The pump motor is configured to provide pressurized fluid and to receive fluid to provide a power output. The hydraulic control system further includes a hydraulic actuator having a first and a second chamber, a first valve, a regenerative valve, and a controller. The controller is in communication with the first valve and the regenerative valve to selectively actuate the regenerative valve to allow flow of a first portion of the fluid from the first chamber to the second chamber. The controller is further configured to selectively actuate the first valve to allow flow of a second portion of the fluid from the first chamber through the pump motor to provide the power output to a shaft of a power source.

System and method for hydraulic energy recovery

An energy recovery system for a machine having a movable work tool, a swing motor to swing the work tool about a vertical axis, a pump providing pressurized fluid to the swing motor, a power source outputting power to drive the pump, and a controller. The energy recovery system may include a first accumulator, a swing charge valve selectively connecting the swing motor to the first accumulator, an assist motor operatively connected to the power source, and a discharge selectively connecting the first accumulator to the assist motor. The swing charge valve may fluidly connect the swing motor to the first accumulator when fluid pressure from the swing motor is greater than a charge set pressure. The controller may cause the discharge valve to fluidly connect the first accumulator with the assist motor when the power demand on the power source is greater than a minimum assisted power demand.

Engine assist by recovering swing kinetic energy

A hydraulic system is disclosed for assisting starting of a machine having an engine. The hydraulic system may include a work tool, a pump driven by the engine to pressurize fluid, and an actuator configured to receive pressurized fluid from the pump and move the work tool. The hydraulic system may also include an accumulator configured to selectively receive pressurized fluid from the pump and from the actuator, an electric starter configured to start the engine, and a motor selectively supplied with fluid from the accumulator to assist the electric starter in starting the engine.

The implement system may have a pump driven by the engine, a first actuator configured to receive pressurized fluid from the pump during operation of the engine, and at least a second actuator configure to receive pressurized fluid from the pump during operation of the engine. The machine may further include a first accumulator, a swing charge valve having a charge set pressure, and a boom charge valve. The swing charge valve selectively fluidly connect the swing motor to the first accumulator, and open to fluidly connect the swing motor to the first accumulator when a swing motor fluid pressure is greater than a charge set pressure of the swing charge valve. The boom charge valve may selectively fluidly connect a head-end chamber of the hydraulic cylinder to the first accumulator when the work tool is lowered.

Hydraulic system recovering swing kinetic and boom potential energy

A hydraulic control system is disclosed for use in a machine. The hydraulic control system may have a work tool, a motor configured to swing the work tool, a tank, a pump configured to draw fluid from the tank and pressurize the fluid, and a control valve operable to control fluid flow from the pump to the motor and from the motor to the tank via first and second chamber passages to affect motion of the motor. The hydraulic control system may also have an accumulator, and an accumulator circuit configured to selectively direct fluid discharged from the motor to the accumulator for storage and to direct stored fluid from the accumulator to the motor to assist the motor. The hydraulic control system may further have a selector valve configured to selectively connect a higher pressure one of the first and second chamber passages with the accumulator, and a single pressure relief valve disposed within the accumulator circuit and configured to relief pressure from opposing sides of the motor.

Hydraulic control system having swing motor energy recovery

A system to diagnose a health of a hydraulic accumulator is provided. The hydraulic accumulator includes a first fluid chamber, a second fluid chamber, and a separator. The hydraulic accumulator has an associated pre-charge pressure. The system further includes a pressure sensor, a fluid source, a data processor, and a comparator. The pressure sensor and the fluid source are connected to the first fluid chamber. The data processor is configured to determine a first and second rate of pressure changes, and a transition pressure between the first and second rates. The approximate pre-charge pressure is determined based on the transition pressure. The comparator is configured to compare at least one of the determined pre charge pressure and the frictional forces with a pre-determined threshold range of pre-charge pressure and the frictional forces associated with the hydraulic accumulator to diagnose the health of the hydraulic accumulator.

Hydraulic accumulator health diagnosis

A hydraulic control system for a machine is disclosed. The hydraulic control system includes a pump configured to pressurize a fluid, and a swing motor selectively driven by pressurized fluid from the pump. The swing motor is configured to move a part of the machine. The hydraulic control system also includes a controller in communication with the pump. The controller is configured to receive an input indicative of a difference between a desired speed and an actual speed of the swing motor, and determine if the swing motor is accelerating, decelerating, or operating at neutral mode. The controller is configured to determine an amount of return fluid from an actuator of the machine that is available as makeup fluid for the swing motor if the swing motor is operating at neutral mode. The controller is configured to control the pump based on at least the amount of return fluid.
