Disclosed are terpolymers and processes of terpolymerization, wherein the terpolymer comprises units derived from ethylene, 1-pentene and another alpha-olefin containing at least six carbon atoms.

Terpolymerization

Process for producing a propylene/1-pentene polymer in the presence of a Ziegler-Natta catalyst system with the monomer reactants being in the vapor phase while the reaction is in process and with no liquid component being present in the reaction zone while the reaction is in progress. Different ways of introducing the reactants are disclosed (partly in liquid phase then immediately evaporated or not, preheated or not, mixed with the comonomer or not).

Gas-phase polymerization process for producing propylene/1-pentene copolymers

The invention provides a copolymer of propylene and pentene, together with a process for producing such copolymer and a polymer composition. In the process, propylene and pentene are reacted in a reaction zone at a pressure of 60 kg/cm and temperature of 0-100&deg; C. for 20-480 minutes in the presence of a Ziegler-Natta catalyst or catalyst system. The polymer composition has several components, namely the above copolymer, a phenolic stabilizer, an organic phosphite stabilizer, a thioether stabilizer and at least one metal salt of a higher aliphatic acid, with the proviso that at least one of the organic phosphite stabilizer, the thioether stabilizer and said salt must be present, so that up to two thereof can optionally be omitted.

Propylene pentene-1 copolymers, method of preparation thereof and composition containing them

A method of making a catalyst suitable for the polymerization of olefins includes the steps of mixing an ether having a total number of carbon atoms equal to or greater than 8, with hydrated magnesium chloride, to produce partially activated magnesium chloride; mixing an alkyl aluminum with the partially activated magnesium chloride to form unwashed activated magnesium chloride; and washing the activated magnesium chloride with an inert saturated hydrocarbon liquid, to obtain an activated magnesium chloride-containing slurry. A plurality of alcohols are mixed with the activated magnesium chloride-containing slurry to form an activated magnesium chloride/alcohol complex. Titanium tetrachloride is mixed with the activated magnesium chloride/alcohol complex, to form a magnesium chloride supported titanium catalyst.

Catalyst

The invention provides a polymer which is a polymerization product obtained by polymerizing at least ethylene, 1-pentene and 1-hexene; and a process for producing a polymer by reacting at least ethylene, 1-pentene and 1-hexene in a reaction zone at a pressure between atmospheric and 60 kg/cm,and at a temperature between 30&deg; C. and 120&deg; C., in the presence of a catalyst system. The invention also provides a polymer composition which comprises a terpolymer of ethylene, 1-pentene and 1-hexene, a phenolic stabilizer component, a metal salt of a higher aliphatic acid, and, optionally, at least one organic phosphite stabilizer.
