A laser crosslink apparatus includes an optical device (, FIG.), a beam splitter (), an acquisition channel and a tracking and communication channel. The acquisition channel includes a high density optical fiber bundle and an acquisition channel device (). The optical device () receives laser light from a wide field of view, and the beam splitter () splits the light into the two channels. The high density optical fiber bundle () has one end () in a focal plane of the optical device, and another end () coupled to the acquisition channel device (). The acquisition channel device () includes an optical receiver array (, FIG.). The location of spot footprints on the optical receiver array determines the direction from which the laser light is received within the wide field of view. The optical fiber bundle allows the optical receiver array to be located away from the optical device, near the receiving/tracking system, where it can be more easily shielded from the harmful effects of space.

Laser crosslink methods and apparatus

A teleconference system including a plurality of personal presence cells positioned at a local communication site and at a remote communication site. The plurality of personal presence cells are characterized as either sensor cells or display cells. The sensor cells include at least one video camera positioned to sense and transmit an image of the local participant, and an image screen positioned to reflect an image of the local participant toward the at least one video camera and for viewing of an image through the screen. The display cells each include at least one projection display positioned to display a multi-dimensional image of a remote participant on a display screen. A transmission link interfaces the plurality of personal presence cells positioned at the local communication site and the plurality of presence cells positioned at the remote communication site.

Directable laser transmission module

The density of the fiber bundle is such that each optical source ( ) couples light to multiple fibers within the bundle. Optical interconnect method and apparatus

A bio-molecule analyzer includes an array of addressable light sources, a photoconductive layer of material having a layer of electrically conductive material on a surface thereof mounted on the array of addressable light sources, and a plurality of test sites on an opposing surface of the photoconductive layer of material defined by the plurality of light sources. A solution containing a plurality of bio-molecules is positioned in electrical contact with the plurality of test sites. An electrical potential is connected between the solution and the layer of electrically conductive material, whereby the array of addressable light sources emit beams of light through a plurality of portions of the photoconductive layer of material to define the test sites and complete electrical circuits between the layer of electrically conductive material and the solution.

A method for wavelength division multiplexing including the steps of providing at least two annular waveguide or spatially donut mode and spectrally single mode vertical cavity surface emitting lasers for operating in a single high order transverse mode. In addition, provided is a multimode fiber based data link. The spatially donut mode and spectrally single mode vertical cavity surface emitting lasers are coupled to the multimode fibers through wavelength multiplexing techniques. During operation, a modulation voltage or modulation current is applied to the spatially donut mode and spectrally single mode vertical cavity surface emitting lasers thereby exciting higher order modes in the multimode fiber based data link and thus achieving either wavelength division multiplexing or de-multiplexing over a large transmission distance.
