A direct-light generator includes an optical unit positioned downstream of an output surface of a collimated light source and upstream from a first emitting surface with respect to a direct light direction. The optical unit includes a first planar light mixing element characterized by a first response function having a first angular profile with a peak having a first divergence angle, and a second planar light mixing element characterized by a second response function having a second angular profile with a peak having a second divergence angle. The first planar light mixing element at least partially intercepts collimated light exiting the output surface of the collimated light source and defines a unit input surface. The second planar light mixing element is positioned downstream of the unit input surface to at least partially intercept light crossing the unit input surface and to define a unit emitting surface.

Sun-sky-imitating illumination device

A sunlight-based projector system () is disclosed for providing a direct light beam (). The projector system () comprises a sunlight receiving unit () with a collector system (), a plurality of optical fibers (), and a plurality of fiber output channels (). The collector system () collects natural outdoor light, and couples the collected light into the plurality of optical fibers (). The projector system () comprises further a sunlight forming unit () with a plurality of optical collimator units () arranged in a two-dimensional array, wherein each optical collimator unit () receives the respective fiber output light () and comprises at least one optical collimator () for reducing the angular distribution width of the received divergent fiber output light (). Output areas of the plurality of optical collimator units () form essentially a continuously extending large light-emitting face () of the sunlight forming unit () for emitting an essentially collimated light beam (). The generated direct light beam () may be used together with diffused light generating areal units to provide a sun-sky imitating lighting system with a sun-like appearance.

Sunlight-based sun imitating illumination

A light source () for emitting collimated light () in particular for a large area luminaire () comprises a light guide unit () for guiding light by total internal reflection. The light guide unit comprises a plurality of localized light source regions () at a main front face (A) for having light pass there through. The light source () further comprises a plurality of light emitting units () for emitting light into the light guide strips () through respective portions of the at least one coupling face () of the light guide unit (), and a collimation unit () extending along the main front face (A) and comprising a plurality of collimating elements. At least one light emitting unit () is configured as a light input coupling assembly () to receive collected natural light from a fiber () and to provide the received natural light to the light guide unit (). The light source () can be implemented in a sunlight-based illumination system () collecting and providing natural light to the light source ().

Sunlight-based large area light source and large area luminaire

An artificial illumination device for generating natural light similar to that from the sun and the sky includes a direct-light source; and a diffused-light generator, wherein the direct-light source includes a first light-emitting device configured to emit a primary light, and a first emitting surface positioned downstream the first light-emitting device, wherein the diffused-light generator is at least partially light-transparent and is positioned downstream of the first light-emitting device and includes a second emitting surface and is configured to cause diffused light at the second emitting surface. Both co-operate to form outer light at an outer emitting surface which includes a first light component which propagates along directions contained within the narrow peak and a second light component which propagates along directions spaced apart from the narrow peak, and wherein the first light component has a CCT which is lower than a CCT of the second light component.

Artificial illumination device

A lighting system for illuminating an environment with a lighting that simulates natural lighting, which includes: a first light source which emits a beam of visible light; a diffused-light generator delimited by an inner surface, which receives the light beam, and an outer surface, the diffused-light generator being at least partially transparent to the light beam. The diffused-light generator transmits at least part of the light beam and emits, through the outer surface, visible diffused light, the correlated color temperature of the transmitted light being lower than the CCT of the visible diffused light. The lighting system includes a dark structure which is optically coupled to the environment via the diffused-light generator and provides a substantially uniform background to the first light source.

Artificial lighting system for simulating a natural lighting

In an aspect, a lighting system () comprises a lighting unit () with a light source () and a dichroic light exiting surface (), wherein the lighting unit () is configured for emitting dichroic light from the dichroic light exiting surface (). The emitted dichroic light includes a directional light portion () of direct light () and a diffused light portion () of diffused light () with a another larger correlated color temperature. The lighting system further comprises an appearance affecting optical system () with a plurality of structural elements () that comprise surfaces that delimit a plurality of diffused light passages (), and comprise direct light illuminated surface regions (), which are subject to the illumination with direct light () from respectively associated affected direct light providing areas () of the dichroic light exiting surface (). Moreover, the affected direct light providing areas () cover at least 70% of the dichroic light exiting surface (), and the direct light () from at least one affected direct light providing area () and diffused light () propagate within at least one of the diffused light passages ().

Lighting system with appearance affecting optical system

In an aspect, a chromatic facade unit for being attached to a wall (A) of a building () is disclosed that can form a facade () of the wall (A). The chromatic facade unit () comprises a support structure (), a chromatic reflective layer () formed on the support structure (), the chromatic reflective layer () comprising reflective layer () and a chromatic diffusing layer (), wherein the chromatic diffusing layer () is configured to provide for a specular reflectance that is larger in the red than in the blue and for a diffuse reflectance that is larger in the blue than in the red, and the reflective layer () is configured to reflect visible light having passed through the chromatic diffusing layer (). The chromatic facade unit () comprises further an absorbing medium () provided in or on the chromatic diffusing layer () and/or the reflective layer (), wherein the absorbing medium () is configured to absorb preferred radiation in the infrared spectrum and less in the visible spectrum. Furthermore, respective chromatic window units are disclosed to comprise a chromatic diffusing layer () and an absorbing medium ().

Chromatic facade and window units

A light source () for emitting collimated light () in particular for a large area luminaire () comprises a light guide unit () comprising a plurality of light guide strips () configured for guiding light received at the at least one lateral coupling face (), for example, by total internal reflection. The light guide strips comprise a plurality of localized light source regions () at a main front face (A) for having light pass there through, wherein the light source regions () are provided along the light guide strip () within a non-source region (). The light source () further comprising a plurality of light emitting units () for emitting light into the light guide strips () through respective portions of the at least one coupling face (), and a collimation unit () extending along the main front face (A) and comprising a plurality of collimating elements. Each collimating element comprises an input side and an output side, is optically associated to one of the plurality of light source regions (), and is configured to receive light emerging from the associated light source region () at its input side and to emit collimated light () from a respective collimated light emitting region () formed at its output side.

Large area light source and large area luminaire

A lighting system () for in particular forming a room edge () of a room comprises an enlarged sky-perception providing unit () with a light transparent panel () and a mirror unit () with a reflective face (A) forming an inner edge (), the lighting system further comprises a light source () configured to emit a direct light beam () through the light transparent panel () onto the mirror unit () such that the transmitted portion () of the light beam is reflected completely by the reflective face (A), thereby creating a reflected direct light beam () in particular for imitating a sun beam.

Sun-sky imitating lighting system with enlarged perceived window area

In an aspect, an illumination system () includes a light source () configured to generate a light beam (), and a chromatic reflective unit () for being illuminated by the light beam (). The chromatic reflective unit () includes a plurality of non-coplanar reflective surface sections ('), and a chromatic diffusing layer () includes a plurality of nanoparticles () embedded in a matrix (). The chromatic diffusing layer () is provided upstream of the plurality of reflective surface sections (&#x2032;) such that at least a portion of the light beam () passes through the chromatic diffusing layer () before and after being reflected by the plurality of non-coplanar reflective surface sections (&#x2032;). Chromatic diffusing layer () is further configured to provide for a specular reflectance that is larger in the red than in the blue and for a diffuse reflectance that is larger in the blue than in the red.

Reflective illumination systems for optically widened perception

A lighting system (A,B) comprises a light source () for emitting a light beam stripe (B) with a plurality of light emitting units (A,B) forming an array in the longitudinal direction (X), and an optical element () at the exit side of the light source () extending across the plurality of light emitting units, and configured to enlarge the beam divergence in the transversal direction. The lighting system (A,B) further comprises a reflector unit, a support structure (), and a reflective surface () with an essentially linear shape in the longitudinal direction (X) and a curved shape in the longitudinal transverse direction (Y), and a chromatic diffusing layer () comprising a plurality of nanoparticles embedded in a matrix, wherein the chromatic diffusing layer () is positioned such that at least a portion of the reflected light beam (A) passes through the chromatic diffusing layer (), thereby generating diffuse light by scattering more efficiently the short-wavelengths components of the light in the visible spectral range than the long-wavelength components of the light in the visible spectral range.

Modular sun-sky-imitating lighting system

A seat illuminating system (D) for, in particular sunlight-like, illuminating a target region () comprises a seat arrangement () having a seat surface (A). The target region () is defined for a person sitting on the seat surface (A). The seat illuminating system (D) comprises further a mounting structure (A) being spatially fixed with respect to the seat arrangement (); a reflector unit () mounted at the mounting structure (A) and comprising a reflective surface and a luminous layer for homogenously emitting diffuse light at a first color, the luminous layer extending in front of the reflective surface and comprising a visible front area section (A) of the reflector unit (). Seat illuminating system

A chromatic diffusing layer () comprises a plurality of nanoparticles () embedded in a matrix (), for Rayleigh-like scattering with an average size d in the range 10 nm&#x2264;d&#x2264;240 nm, and a ratio between the blue and red scattering optical densities Log [R(450 nm)]/Log [R(630 nm)] of said chromatic reflective unit falls in the range 5&#x2265;&#x3b3;&#x2265;2.5, where R(&#x3bb;) is the monochromatic normalized specular reflectance of the chromatic reflective unit, which is the ratio between the specular reflectance of the chromatic reflective unit and the specular reflectance of a reference sample identical to the chromatic reflective unit except for the fact that the chromatic diffusing layer does not contain nanoparticles with the size d in the range 10 nm&#x2264;d&#x2264;240 nm and for the direction normal to the reflective layer () of the chromatic reflective unit (), the monochromatic normalized specular reflectance R(&#x3bb;) of the chromatic reflective unit at a wavelength of 450 nm is in the range from about 0.0025 to about 0.15, such as defined by the equations 0.0025&#x2264;R(450 nm)&#x2264;0.15, 0.0025&#x2264;R(450 nm)&#x2264;0.05, 0.0025&#x2264;R(450 nm)&#x2264;0.04.
