The technology disclosed herein relates to a handheld scanning device and associated methods and media. The handheld scanning device has an optical sensor positioned under at least a portion of a back side of a handle, such that a wavelength can pass through at least the portion of the handle. For example, this portion of the handle can be translucent or transparent. In some embodiments, one or more processors of the handheld scanning device can determine, using the optical sensor, that the handheld scanning device is to transition to an operating or idle state. In embodiments, the handheld scanning device may have a battery and a battery indicator capable of emitting a visible light through a portion of the handle to indicate a state of the battery.

A code reader may include a light source configured to illuminate a target area in which items are to be located for reading machine-readable indicia associated with the items, an image sensor configured to capture an image of the target area, an illumination drive circuit in electrical communication with the light source, and an image capture circuit. The image capture circuit may be configured to (i) enable and disable the image sensor to capture an image of the target area during the high illumination and a portion(s) of the low illumination of the target area, and (ii) read an image captured by the image sensor. The illumination drive signals may cause the illumination drive circuit to generate a high illumination drive signal to cause the light source to produce a high illumination, and generate a low illumination drive current to cause said light source to produce a low illumination.

System and method for illuminating a target of a barcode reader

A calibration process is started by a capacitive input variation when a capacitive button is pressed on a barcode reader. Or, the calibration process is started by the barcode reader scanning a configuration label or special label or barcode after the capacitive button on the barcode reader is inoperative. The calibration process realigns the input and the threshold to correctly configure the capacitive button.

A handheld code reader may include a main structure, a handle extending from the main structure, and a trigger configured to be pulled by a finger of a user holding the handle. The code reader may further include a conductive element, an antenna configured to sense an inductive change caused by the trigger moving the conductive element, and electronics in electrical communication with the antenna, the electronics configured to determine when the inductive change is indicative of a user selecting to activate a pre-trigger aiming function.

A scanner that includes a pressure-sensitive component and a haptic feedback component. The pressure-sensitive component can active a function of the scanner. The scanner may include a biometric-sensitive component which may activate additional or similar functions of the scanner. When a function is activated, a plurality of haptic feedbacks may be presented by the haptic feedback component. A method of manufacturing the scanner is also provided.

Smart trigger

Systems and methods for capturing machine-readable symbols using a finger mounted indicia. The system includes an image sensor that captures a plurality of images from the field of view of the image sensor. An occurrence of a gesture is detected in the plurality of images, in which the gesture is represented by a trace of a number of movements of a finger mounted indicia. In response to detecting the occurrence of the gesture, an at least attempt is triggered to decode one or more machine-readable symbols represented in the images. The gesture may be used to indicate a region of interest that includes the machine-readable symbol. Such indication may improve the efficiency and processing time needed to detect and decode a machine-readable symbol.
