A code reader comprises a first imager and a second imager configured to capture an image with different field of views, a first illuminator and a second illuminator configured to project a different illumination pattern, and a processor operably coupled to the imagers and the illuminators. The processor configured to activate the first imager and the first illuminator as a receiver pair responsive to detecting a first condition, activate the second imager and the second illuminator as a receiver pair responsive to detecting a second condition, and decode an optical code using an image captured by the selected receiver pair.

Dual illuminator as field of view identification and aiming

A code reader may include a light source configured to illuminate a target area in which items are to be located for reading machine-readable indicia associated with the items, an image sensor configured to capture an image of the target area, an illumination drive circuit in electrical communication with the light source, and an image capture circuit. The image capture circuit may be configured to (i) enable and disable the image sensor to capture an image of the target area during the high illumination and a portion(s) of the low illumination of the target area, and (ii) read an image captured by the image sensor. The illumination drive signals may cause the illumination drive circuit to generate a high illumination drive signal to cause the light source to produce a high illumination, and generate a low illumination drive current to cause said light source to produce a low illumination.

System and method for illuminating a target of a barcode reader

The present disclosure relates to data readers including an improved imaging system that optimizes active and passive autofocus techniques for improving data reading functions. In an example, the data reader initially uses active autofocus techniques to focus a lens system based on a measurement reading by a rangefinder and acquire an image of an item in the field-of-view of the data reader. The data reader includes a decoding engine operable to decode an optical code of the item using the acquired image. If the decoding engine is unable to decode the optical code using the active autofocus technique, the data reader alternates to a passive autofocus technique to alter the focus settings of the lens system and reattempt the decoding process.

An optical scanner captures a plurality of images from a plurality of image-capture devices. In response to the activation signal, an evaluation phase is executed, and in response to the evaluation phase, an acquisition phase is executed. In the evaluation phase, a first set of images is captured and processed to produce a virtual frame comprising a plurality of regions, with each region containing a reduced-data image frame that is based on a corresponding one of the plurality of images. Also in the evaluation phase, attributes of each of the plurality regions of the virtual frame are assessed according to first predefined criteria, and operational parameters for the acquisition phase are set based on a result of the assessment. In the acquisition phase, a second set of at least one image is captured via at least one of the plurality of image-capture devices according to the set of operational parameters.

Systems and methods involving one or more wearable components that obtain information about a surrounding environment and provide information to a user to assist user in retrieving objects from the surrounding environment. The information may include navigation information related to a route that the user may take to retrieve an object, as well as information about the object to be retrieved. The wearable components may be include ones that may be mounted on the head of the user, as well as components that the user may wear on other parts of the body or that attach to clothing. The wearable components may include image sensors, microphones, machine-readable symbol readers, range-finders, accelerometers, and/or gyroscopes that may collect information from and about the surroundings of the user. The wearable components may also include one or more of a set of speakers and/or a display subsystem to provide information to the user.

A flexible cable may include an electrical conductor, a dielectric insulator layer surrounding the electrical conductor, a jacket layer being flexible and surrounding the dielectric insulator layer, a shield surrounding the dielectric insulator layer and a connector electrically connected to the electrical conductor. The connector may be configured to connect to an electronic device and communicate electrical signals from the electrical conductor to the electronic device. The cable may further include a capacitive layer engaging the jacket layer. At least one capacitive pad may be disposed on the capacitive layer and be configured to communicate signals (e.g., capacitance variance) over a communications path in response to a user touching the capacitive pad(s) by his or her fingers.

A reader contains a housing with a window having a peripheral rim. The housing has a device for reading coded information which generates a field projecting through the window towards the outside of the housing, and has a device for visually indicating the result to a user. The visual indication device generates an indication appearing substantially at least on the window, on a portion of the peripheral rim of the window, or on a portion of the housing adjoining laterally the peripheral rim of the window. The housing portion is at least on the left side, right side, or below the window. Additionally, a camera based checkout security system includes at least a checkout security camera and a fixed position reader of coded information. A boss assembly includes: a first boss formed integrally with a first portion of an enclosure that cooperates with a second portion thereof to enclose a volume, wherein the first passage communicates between the enclosed volume at an internal aperture and an external environment at an external aperture; an enclosure screw having an enlarged head to retain the enclosure screw within the first passage and an elongate threaded shaft portion to extend out of the first passage through the internal aperture, into the interior volume and into a second passage of a second boss of the second portion; and a threaded insert that is sized to engage interior surfaces of the first passage with a tight fit when inserted therein between the head of the enclosure screw and the external aperture, wherein the first threaded insert defines a threaded third passage that extends therethrough.

A method of scanning an object may include determining that an object is proximately positioned relative to a scanning volume of a presentation scanner in response to receiving at least one object presence signal prior to scanning a code indicia positioned on the object. At least one object sensory indicator device may be activated in response to determining that the object is proximately positioned relative to the scanning volume so as to indicate that the object is proximate to the scanning volume to a user. A second level of detection and location feedback may be provided for code indicia within the scanning volume.

Data reader with hybrid auto focus system

An imager module for an optical code reader may include a camera comprising a lens system, and an actuator for moving the lens system operatively connected to the lens system for autofocus adjustment. The actuator for moving the lens system comprises a linear electric motor with a drive shaft, a position sensor device adapted to detect the position of the drive shaft within a predefined stroke length and a control device adapted to control the movement of the drive shaft. The control device and the position sensor device are integrated in a single PCB, the electric motor comprises a frame that supports the drive shaft, and the single PCB constitutes part of said frame. On optical code reader may include such an imager module.
