Polymerization inhibitor compositions are provided. The polymerization inhibitor compositions may include at least one hydroxylamine of a nitroxide and at least one phenylenediamine. Methods of inhibiting the unwanted polymerization of monomers are also provided. The methods include adding the presently disclosed polymerization inhibitor compositions to a fluid containing the monomers. The monomers may be ethylenically unsaturated monomers, such as acrylic acid, methacrylic acid, acrylonitrile, methacrylonitrile, acrolein, methacrolein, acrylate, methacrylate, acrylamide, methacrylamide, vinyl acetate, butadiene, ethylene, propylene, and styrene.

Nitroxide hydroxylamine and phenylenediamine combinations as polymerization inhibitors for ethylenically unsaturated monomer processes

Disclosed herein are compositions including between 20 wt % and 50 wt % of a nitroxyl compound such as 2,2,6,6-tetramethylpiperidinyl-1-oxyl. The compositions are stable under field conditions of transportation and storage. The compositions remain homogeneous and pumpable or pourable at temperatures between &#x2212;20&#xb0; C. and 60&#xb0; C., even when temperatures fluctuate in this range over a period of 10 days to 5 years, and even where the container used to transport and store the composition is made from metal or includes a metal surface contacting the composition.

Polymerization inhibitor compositions

The present invention generally relates to a method for reducing polymer agglomeration or fouling, and its use in processes for the preparation of an acrylate, methacrylic acid, or a methacrylate. According to the present invention, the reagent comprises an alkyl phthalate, an alkaryl phthalate, an aryl phthalate, or a phthalic acid, and applying the reagent to processes for the preparation of an acrylate, methacrylic acid, or a methacrylate to prevent polymeric foulant precursors from agglomerating or to dissolve existing polymeric agglomerates or foulants so as to reduce polymer agglomeration or fouling in the process or storage equipment.

Reducing polymer fouling and agglomeration in acrylate/methacrylate processes

The invention provides a composition and a method of using the composition for inhibiting the unwanted polymerization of ethylenically unsaturated monomers. The composition is prepared by reducing a nitroxide stable free radical to its corresponding hydroxylamine through reaction with a dialkyl/aryl hydroxylamine and subsequent addition of a polymerization prevention component selected from phenolic antioxidants, phenylenediamine and phenylenediamine derivatives, or phenothiazine and phenothiazine derivatives targeted towards ethylenically unsaturated monomers. The conversion of the nitroxide by the dialkyl/aryl hydroxylamine is to prevent it or the polymerization prevention component from being 'spent'by reaction with each other, impurities or any other incompatible components. This allows previously incompatible combinations to now work effectively. In fact, the combination is more efficacious as the combination exerts a synergy due to the presence of various polymerization prevention reagents. The composition is a synergistic combination of various polymerization inhibition compounds for the inhibition of the unwanted polymerization of ethylenically unsaturated monomers.

Multi-component polymerization inhibitors for ethylenically unsaturated monomers

A styrene sulfonate polymer which is highly effective at preventing fouling of equipment used in the manufacturing process of acrylonitrile. The styrene sulfonate polymer is particularly effective when introduced into the quench column, the recovery stage and the wastewater processing section of the acrylonitrile manufacturing process.

Dispersant antifoulant for acrylonitrile

A composition comprising aminoalkyl imidazoline or alkyl-substituted succinimide antifoulants or mixtures thereof, and use of aminoalkyl imidazolines and alkyl-substituted succinimides to prevent fouling in (meth)acrylic acid manufacturing processes and processes in which (meth)acrylic acid is used in a reaction and where unreacted (meth)acrylic acid is recovered.

Composition and method for preventing fouling in (meth)acrylic acid processes

An antifoulant composition comprising (meth)acrylic acid and one or more (meth)acrylate or (meth)acrylamide antifoulant polymers and a method of preventing fouling in (meth)acrylic acid processes comprising adding the (meth)acrylate or (meth)acrylamide antifoulant polymers to the (meth)acrylic acid process stream.
