Implementations of the present disclosure include actions of receiving a search query, identifying potential search results responsive to the search query, the potential search results corresponding to digital content stored in one or more computer-readable storage media, determining that the potential search results include user-generated content that is generated using one or more computer-implemented social services, receiving data associated with the user-generated content, the data including one or more scores, determining, based on the one or more scores, that the user-generated content is to be provided as a search result, generating search results, the search results including web-based search results and at least a portion of the user-generated content, and transmitting the search results to a client computing device for display to the searching user.

Selective presentation of content types and sources in search

Methods, systems, and apparatus, including computer programs encoded on a computer storage medium, for receiving a search query, identifying a plurality of search results that are responsive to the search query, the plurality of search results including a plurality of items of digital content distributed using one or more social networking services, and determining that one or more terms provided in the search query is an active keyword and, in response: defining a first sub-set of items, the first sub-set of items including items of the plurality of items of digital content and being responsive to the active keyword, and providing items in the first sub-set of items for display as a discussion stream within search results.

Inline discussions in search results around real-time clusterings

Techniques for customizing search may include the following operations: outputting, to a computing device of a user, a Web page that enables selection of signals that are usable to generate search results; during a search session, receiving, through the Web page, a query and a selection corresponding to one or more of the signals, where the selection differs from a default set of search signals used by the search system for searching; obtaining, for output to the computing device, search results that are based on the query and the selection; and following the search session, configuring the search system to use the default set of search signals for searching.

Customizing search

Systems and methods for generating search results are provided. In some aspects, a method includes receiving a query, obtaining a search result that is responsive to the query, obtaining content from a social networking service that is responsive to the query and related to the search result, modifying the search result to include a first portion associated with the content from the social networking service, providing for display the modified search result and an interface component for receiving a request for interacting with the content, and modifying the search result to include a second portion of the content and to provide an interface to facilitate an interaction, in response to receiving a request for interacting with the content.
