A method, computer program, and system for augmenting communications protocols. Communications are received with which at least one protocol is determined to be associated. The at least one protocol may be configured to control at least one of the communications. Parameters associated with the at least one protocol are identified. In turn, at least one rule is accessed that is based on the at least one protocol and the parameters. Subsequently, a user is provided with at least one communications-control option according to the at least one rule.

Systems and methods for augmenting communications protocols

Multiple characteristics of an signal are measured to determine the presence of an alert tone on an incoming signal to a customer premises equipment (CPE) in preparation for receipt of FSK modem signals. The apparatus, method, and article of manufacture discern the presence of an alert tone by measuring characteristics of the incoming signal. The alert tone is able to be discerned even under crosstalk conditions and over a wide dynamic range with the digital signal processing (DSP) method and apparatus described. Multiple characteristics of the signal are measured to determine the presence of the alert tone.

A data processor, such as a digital signal processor, that has augmented memory, I/O and math units for real-time performance of complex functions, is placed under the control of a group of abstract object-oriented modules arranged with an underlying operational nucleus that includes a real-time kernel. The modules are hierarchically configured, with the lowest being an array object type that references memory allocations. A stream object type, based on the arrays, defines channels between application software and data devices. A vector object type, also based on the arrays, establishes structure within allocated blocks and also enables vector math functions to be undertaken by the vector module. Matrix and filter object types utilize the arrays and vectors in sequences controlled by the corresponding matrix and vector modules. The system provides a model of DSP functionality that is hardware independent, and an interface between high level language calls and highly efficient routines executed in assembly language. With this arrangement a large library of math functions is held available for use in real-time operations of complex nature.

An all digital feature based pattern recognition tone detection system distinguishes one or more tones from speech or other background noise and provides extremely reliable, low cost DTMF tone detection. The system includes a digital signal processing system which uses a modified PARCOR signal analysis technique to efficiently calculate inverse filter coefficients defining in functional form a smoothed LPC spectrum from a received frame of digital pulse code data. A Fourier transform provides high resolution evaluation of the LPC data at frequencies of interest to permit evaluation of the spectral response in accordance with known features of an expected tone signal.
