Systems and methods for motion-based scrolling of contents view on a display with a screen view that is smaller than the contents view are described. During an augmented tilt control mode, scrolling follows changes in a primary tilt direction aligned with the scrolling direction, while a secondary tilt along a direction perpendicular to the scrolling direction is used to modify at least one scrolling control parameter. The scrolling control may follow a Proportional Scroll mode, where the primary tilt directly controls the screen view position over the contents view, or follow a Dynamic Scroll mode, where the primary tilt controls the scrolling speed. In some implementations, the scroll mode is determined automatically based on the magnification of the contents view. A predefined gestured in the secondary tilt may temporarily override the scroll mode selection. In some implementations with multi-directional scrolling, the current scrolling direction may be temporarily captured during the augmented tilt control mode so that tilt gestures along the direction perpendicular to the captured scrolling direction may be used to modify at least one control parameters.

Motion-based view scrolling with augmented tilt control

Systems and methods for using portions of the surface around a wearable smart device as virtual touchpads for data and command entry are disclosed. For wearable smart devices worn on the wrist like smartwatches, the skin area over the back hand as well as the surface area over the arm adjacent to the device may serve as virtual touchpads. One or more side looking cameras facing each virtual touchpad may be used to detect touches and movements by one or more fingers on the virtual touchpads to simulate equivalent tactile gestures that control the device. Various surface artifact movements captured by the cameras may be used to confirm that the finger is actually touching the virtual touchpad and not just hovering above it. Sound sensors that independently detect and locate finger touches, as well as motion sensors that detect vibration corresponding to actual touch tap events, may be combined with the cameras to improve the detection accuracy of the tactile gestures. Touch position may also be detected by triangulation of encoded RF signals that propagate from one side of the device via the operator body to the back hand virtual touchpad. Two or more virtual touchpads can operate in interchangeable or complementary modes. During interchangeable operation mode, all virtual touchpads may respond to all the tactile gestures supported by the device. In complementary mode, some virtual touchpads may be restricted to recognize only a specific subset of the supported gestures.

Virtual touchpads for wearable and portable devices

The present invention provides systems and methods for tilt-based scrolling of a magnified contents view on a mobile device with a relatively small screen display. The user controls the scrolling by changing the device's tilt relative to a baseline tilt. The scrolling control can follow a Proportional Scroll mode, where the relative tilt directly controls the screen position over the contents view, or a Dynamic Scroll mode where the relative tilt controls the scrolling speed. The present invention obtains a criterion for automatically selecting the best scrolling mode when the dimensions of the contents view change. The baseline tilt is updated when the screen display reaches an edge of the contents view to eliminate the creation of a non responsive range of tilt changes when the user changes tilt direction during Proportional Scroll mode, and to return the current tilt of the screen display to an optimal viewing condition during Dynamic Scroll mode.

System and method for view navigation guidance system for a physical display that is smaller than the virtual display it needs to display. Guidance map placed in a heads-up display layer within a small user defined area of the physical display provides an instantaneous indication of the current position of the screen view with minimal obstruction of the contents information. Colors selections for heads on display layer are automatically determined based on the background colors in the main display layer beneath the map. The guidance map area on a touch screen display may include tapping controls, and the position of the guidance map can be dynamically altered by the user during the view navigation to control the navigation parameters.

System and method for view navigation guidance system for a physical display that is smaller than the virtual display it needs to display. System and method for view navigation and magnification of the display of hand-held devices in response to the orientation changes along only two axes of rotation as measured by sensors inside the devices. The view navigation system is engaged and controlled by a single hand which simultaneously presses two ergonomically designed switches on both sides of the hand-held device. In other embodiments, the system engaged into the view navigation mode in response to an operator command in the form of a finger tap, or a voice command, or predefined user gestures. The response curve of the view navigation to sensed changes in orientation is dynamically changing to allow coarse and fine navigation of the view. Various methods are described to terminate the view navigation mode and fix the display at the desired view. Miniature sensors like accelerometers, tilt sensors, or magneto-resistive direction sensors sense the orientation changes. The system can be added to an existing hand-held device via an application interface of the device.

A method and system for component identification system for electronic board tester to identify the actual defective components in a failed board is disclosed. It uses image captures of the front side and backside of the tested board to extract an outline diagram that is compared to a database of outline diagrams of known boards until a match is found. Each outline diagram in the database is associated with a connection list between the standard connector of the board and the individual components. Test results with errors relating to connections of the standard connector are linked via the associated connection list of the match's outline diagram to the individual components. The outline diagram is displayed and printed with the defective components highlighted. Use of the identification system to select the best test algorithm and test parameter setup is disclosed. Connection to and operation with automatic handler systems is also disclosed.

Component identification system for electronic board testers

An interface system, preferably made in the shape and size of a standard removable magnetic medium, and inserted inside a removable magnetic storage unit such as a floppy disk drive or a tape backup drive, is disclosed. Magnetic communication means on the interface system, placed at a close proximity to the read/write head of the magnetic storage unit, exchange data with the read/write head of the magnetic storage unit. The data protocol is similar to the one used by the magnetic storage unit so that the same standard storage unit can alternatively use both the interface system and the regular magnetic media. Several alternate embodiments of the magnetic communication means of the interface system are disclosed. Data from and to the magnetic communication means may be amplified, shaped, and possibly converted from serial format to parallel format by control circuitry which may be fully integrated inside the interface card. The interface system can interface a computer to virtually any external application system, and it is also usable for data communication between two or more computers.

Computer data interface through a removable magnetic storage unit

Dynamic memory heating method in which the control lines of the memory unit are excited with pulses at a rate above the maximum rate used for regular memory functions. While data retention, storage and access capabilities disappear at such rates, the memory unit main current supply exhibits higher rate of current spikes which are used for heating the memory unit. This heating effect tends to increase while increasing the rate at the control lines until a maximum point is reached. Further increase of the rate results with reduced overall current consumption which leads to a reduced heating. An automatic system for detecting this maximum rate of pulses controls the maximum heating of the dynamic memory unit.
