Devices for adjusting or correcting the curvature of a vertebral column are described. One such device comprises a spring and at least three fixation members for attaching the spring to the vertebral column in at least three different locations. Another such device comprises a plurality of springs, each spring for attaching to at least two attachment locations of the vertebral column, and at least three fixation members for attaching the plurality of springs to the attachment locations of the vertebral column such that the plurality of springs are attached longitudinally along a length of the vertebral column. A method of adjusting the curvature of a vertebral column is also described.

Adjusting spinal curvature

Rotary mill

A ligament assembly () comprising a resilient element () connected to a bone anchor () and a ligament (), the resilient element () acting m a cantilever and resisting toads transmitted between the bone anchor () and the ligament () by virtue of the resistance to bending of the resilient element. The ligament () may comprise an artificial ligament () which is adapted to replace a human or animal ligament. The resilient element () may comprise a spiral spring and may act as a biasing element/shock absorber operatively coupled to the artificial ligament () to control the effective stiffness of the artificial ligament (). Consequently, the resilient element () enables an effective stiffness of the artificial ligament () to be achieved that more closely approximates the stiffness of a natural ligament.

An artificial ligament is provided having an elongate body and two ends, with a loop being provided at least one of the ends and a loop liner being provided within the loop. A kit of artificial ligaments is also provided with each ligament in the kit having a different fixed length. Also provided are methods for determining a length of artificial ligament to be used within a prosthetic knee joint, selecting a ligament from a range or kit of ligaments, and implanting a prosthetic knee joint assembly comprising an artificial ligament.

Ligament fixing and a method of attaching a ligament

A system for a unicompartmental knee replacement is described. The system can include a femoral prosthesis component, a tibial prosthesis component and a meniscal bearing. The meniscal bearing can be insertable between the femoral prosthesis component and the tibial prosthesis component. The meniscal bearing can include a first bearing surface configured to bear against the femoral prosthesis component, a second bearing surface opposed to the first bearing surface and configured to bear against the tibial prosthesis component, and a sidewall separating the first bearing surface from the second bearing surface, wherein the sidewall has a retention groove formed in a portion thereof, and wherein the meniscal bearing and the tibial prosthesis component are configured such that the retaining flange enters the retention groove on movement of the meniscal bearing relative to the tibial prosthesis component towards the medial wall.

A rotary mill is disclosed comprising a body portion () having a milling surface () and a central bore () extending along an axis of rotation () of the body portion (); and a guide portion () having a guide body () and a guide peg () extending from the guide body (), the guide peg () operable to be received in the central bore () of the body portion (), the guide body () having at least one alignment feature () which is the same as that of a prosthesis component. A method of implanting a unicondylar femoral component is also disclosed, the method comprising, a) reaming the femoral condylar surface to accept the unicondylar femoral component; b) drilling peg holes for affixing the unicondylar femoral component; c) affixing a guide portion of a rotary mill onto the prepared condylar surface using the drilled peg holes; d) reaming a portion of bone anterior to the affixed guide portion; e) removing the guide portion from the bone; and f) affixing a unicondylar femoral component to the prepared condylar surface.

Knee prosthesis

Disclosed are various embodiments for computer-aided tracking and motion analysis with ultrasound. A computing device is employed to access an ultrasound video generated by at least one ultrasonic imaging device and/or at least one motion sensing camera. A target patch embodied is tracked throughout frames of the ultrasound video by compressing target patches of individual ones of the frames of the ultrasound video into vectors; generating a space partitioning data structure for each of the frames of the ultrasound video; and identifying an image intensity feature for each frame utilizing a corresponding one of the space partitioning data structures generated for each frame of the ultrasound video. Optimized tracking locations may be determined for a sequence of the ultrasound video using the image intensity feature identified for each frame.

Computer-aided tracking and motion analysis with ultrasound for measuring joint kinematics

A kit of parts for use in unicondylar meniscal bearing knee replacement comprises a plurality of meniscal bearings, each meniscal bearing comprising a body defining a dished first bearing surface on one side thereof and a second surface on an opposing side of the body. Each meniscal bearing has an entrapment between 3.2 mm and 3.8 mm. Meniscal bearings and methods of performing unicondylar meniscal bearing replacements are also described.

Unicondylar meniscal bearing knee replacement

The invention concerns a tibial prosthetic component comprising a plate () for forming a tibial plateau of a tibia (), wherein a peripheral region of the plate () has a thickness of less than 3 mm. The invention also concerns a tibial prosthetic component having a keel of depth less than 9 mm. The invention also concerns a method of selecting a tibial prosthetic component comprising receiving measurements of at least one physical attribute of an individual into whom the tibial prosthetic component is to be implanted, selecting a thickness of a plate () and depth of keel of the tibial prosthetic component based on the measurements and providing a tibial prosthetic component comprising a plate () having the selected thickness and a keel having the selected depth.
