A machine operating at an underground mine site is provided. The machine includes an engine, a frame, and a vision assembly. The vision assembly is configured to generate a vision feed of a portion of a roof of the mine site. The roof of the mine site has a plurality of bolts arranged in a predefined pattern. The vision assembly is configured to capture at least a portion of the predefined pattern of bolts based on a field of view of the vision assembly. A controller is communicably coupled to the vision assembly. The controller is configured to receive the vision feed of the portion of the roof of the mine site. The controller is configured to compare the vision feed with the predefined pattern of bolts. The controller is configured to determine a current position of the machine at the mine site based on the comparison.

System and method for underground machine location detection

A method for determining a position of a machine is disclosed. The method may include determining, using a Lidar unit on the machine, input data associated with distances between the Lidar unit and respective light-reflective points in the worksite. The method may also include comparing the input data with comparison data. The comparison data may have reference data sets indicative of distances between reference positions and the respective light-reflective points in the worksite. The reference positions may have a fixed location in the worksite. The method may further include determining the position of the machine as the reference position corresponding to a reference data set that correlates with the input data set.

Positioning system

A method for determining a position of a machine in a worksite is disclosed. The method may include determining, using a Lidar unit on the machine, input data. The input data may be associated with distances between the Lidar unit and respective light-reflective points in the worksite. The method may also include transmitting a radio-frequency communication between a first signal device at a known location within the worksite and a second signal device located on the machine. Further, the method may include determining position data for the machine based on at least the radio frequency communication. The method may also include determining a position of the machine based on the position data and the input data.

Positioning system using radio frequency signals

A positioning system and method for determining a position of a machine are disclosed. The system may have an optical sensing device configured to generate determined shape data associated with a portion of the worksite at the position of the machine. The system may have a first signal device configured to transmit a radio frequency signal and receive a response signal. The system may have a second signal configured to receive the transmitted radio frequency signal and transmit the response signal. The system may have a controller in communication with the optical sensing device and at least one of the first and second signal devices. The controller may be configured to determine an approximate position based on the radio frequency signal and the response signal, identify a reference shape data corresponding to the determined shape data, and determine the position based on the approximate position and the reference shape data.
