Silicone elastomer base compositions containing a stabilizer are disclosed that provide cured silicone elastomers having improved high temperature performance. The stabilizer comprises carbon black, calcium carbonate, iron oxide, and optionally zinc oxide.

Silicone elastomers for high temperature performance

An elastomer-forming coating composition for textile fabrics comprises a first, second and third organopolysiloxane having aliphatically unsaturated substituents, an organosilicon crosslinker having at least 3 silicon-bonded hydrogen atoms, a catalyst and a reinforcing filler. First and second organopolysiloxanes have only terminal aliphatically unsaturated substituents, first having a viscosity at 25&deg; C. of from 50 to 650 mm /s, second a viscosity at 25&deg; C. of at least 10,000 mm /s and third organopolysiloxane has aliphatically unsaturated substituents at terminal siloxane units and on siloxane units in the siloxane polymer chain. Coated textile fabrics and a process for making them is also claimed. Coated fabrics are especially useful in applications where they form a barrier between areas of differing pressures, e.g. airbags. Resulting coatings combine very good tear strength and elongation at break values.

Coating compositions and textile fabrics coated therewith

A textile fabric which has been coated with an elastomer-forming silicone-based composition, comprising an organopolysiloxane polymer having a siloxane backbone being end-blocked with at least two silicon-bonded reactive groups, preferably alkenyl, a cross-linking organosilicon material having at least 3 silicon-bonded reactive groups, preferably SiH, a catalyst, a first reinforcing filler, preferably silica or a silicone resin, and at least 2 parts by weight for every part of the first filler, of a second substantially laminar filler, preferably talc, pyrophillite, vermiculite, smectite or mica. The coated fabric may have among other benefits, a lower friction value and limiting oxygen index. Fabrics are specifically useful for inflatable safety restraints.

Silicone coated textile fabrics

A coated textile fabric that has utility for fabricating automobile airbags. A surface of the textile fabric is coated with first and second layers of polyorganosiloxane-based elastomeric material, the first layer being disposed between the textile surface and the second layer. The polyorganosiloxane-based material of the first layer exhibits an elongation-at-break of at least 400%. The polyorganosiloxane-based material of the second layer exhibits a tear-strength of at least 30 kN/m.
