Waste storage devices are provided. The waste storage device is capable of sharing information concerning the health of a user. The waste storage device includes a sampling area in the interior of the container configured to detect the presence of one or more volatile organic compounds. The waste storage device is in communication with a server system capable of generating and delivering a notification to a user. Methods for communicating a health state of a user are also provided.

The present invention relates to compositions, particularly compositions useful in maintaining and supporting healthy microflora in the female urogenital tract which could lead to inhibition of vaginal infections, as well as methods of treating and preventing vaginal infections. Compositions useful in supporting healthy microflora, disclosed herein, generally comprise a therapeutic amount of a first saccharide and a therapeutic amount of a second saccharide or an organic acid. The saccharides may be, for example, a pentose, a disaccharide, a cyclodextrin, a pectic substance or a non-digestible polysaccharide. The organic acid may be, for example, malic acid.

Synergistic composition for maintenance of healthy balance of microflora

A disinfectant composition that is capable of inactivating non-enveloped viruses as well as other microorganisms, such as gram negative and gram positive bacteria, fungi, parasites, enveloped viruses, etc., is provided. Through selective control over the nature of the acid(s) employed and the overall pH level, the present inventors have discovered that the composition can achieve rapid antiviral efficacy, particularly against non-enveloped viruses. Once applied to a surface (e.g., hard surface), the disinfectant composition forms a film that remains capable of providing residual antiviral activity. Notably, the present inventors have discovered that the use of a vinylpyrrolidone copolymer in combination with a polyquaternary ammonium polymer and cationic surfactant can have a synergistic effect on the stability of the film such that it can also achieve long-term, residual antiviral activity.

Residual disinfectant composition

A composition for inhibiting the attachment of DNA viruses to a surface can include a liquid carrier, an anti-adherent agent, and a humectant. The anti-adherent agent can include C12-16 Alkyl PEG-2 Hydroxypropyl Hydroxyethyl Ethylcellulose. A method for inhibiting the adherence of DNA viruses to a surface can include providing a composition that includes an anti-adherent agent including C12-16 Alkyl PEG-2 Hydroxypropyl Hydroxyethyl Ethylcellulose. The method can also include applying the composition to the surface to inhibit the adherence of DNA viruses to the surface.

Compositions useful in supporting healthy microflora, disclosed herein, generally include a first therapeutic agent including α methyl-D glucoside and a second therapeutic agent including a nitrogen containing compound at a therapeutic amount. In some embodiments, the nitrogen containing compound can be, for example, L-Cysteine, Cytidine, D-Asparagine, Pyrimidine, D-Alanine, D-Glucosamine HCL, and N-Acetyl-D-Glucosamine.

A fibrous substrate for the removal of Gram negative bacteria () from a surface is provided. The fibrous substrate includes a capturing agent, and the affinity of capturing for the Gram negative bacteria allows the fibrous substrate to capture the Gram negative bacteria, thereby removing the Gram negative bacteria from the surface and also inhibiting the spread of the Gram negative bacteria to other surfaces that may contact the fibrous substrate. Of particular advantage, the presence of the capturing agent on the fibrous substrate may help protect against the spread or infection of pathogens without the use of chemicals, such as antiseptics or antibiotics.

Farnesol analogs, along with their related products (e.g., treatment compositions, wipes, absorbent articles, etc.) and their methods of formation, are provided. The farnesol analog includes a hydrophilic end group (e.g., a hydroxyl end group or a carboxylic acid end group) attached to farnesol via a covalent linkage (e.g., an ester group or an ether group).

Methods and products for maintaining a target pH range of an environment including at least one organism are provided. A method can include releasing a carbon source to the environment. A method can further include allowing the carbon source to be metabolized by the at least one organism and lower a pH of the environment. The method can also include releasing a nitrogen source to the environment. The method can additionally include allowing the nitrogen source to be metabolized by the at least one organism and increase the pH of the environment. The releasing of the carbon source to the environment and the releasing of the nitrogen source to the environment can be selectively timed to control the pH of the environment to the target pH range of the environment.

Methods and products for dynamic control of environments by selective metabolic function of microbes

Methods of inhibiting microbes from attaching to a surface and anti-adherent compositions are disclosed. One method can include providing an anti-adherent composition that includes an anti-adherent agent configured to inhibit microbes from attaching to the surface. The anti-adherent agent can be: Acrylates Copolymer, Trimethylpentanediol/Adipic Acid/Glycerin crosspolymer, Trimethylpentanediol/Adipic Acid Copolymer, Ethylhexyl Stearate, Ethylhexyl Salicylate, Acrylates/C12-22 Alkylmethacrylate Copolymer, Octocrylene, Ethylene Oxide/Propylene Oxide Block Copolymer, Polyquaternium-101, or any combinations thereof. The method can include applying the composition to the surface and allowing at least some of the composition to remain on the surface such that the anti-adherent agent inhibits microbes from attaching to the surface. The anti-adherent composition can include a humectant and can be non-antimicrobial.

Anti-adherent compositions and methods of inhibiting the adherence of microbes to a surface

A wipe containing a fibrous web on which is coated an antimicrobial composition is provided. The composition includes a botanical oil derived from a plant (e.g., thymol, carvacrol, etc.). Because the oil is volatile and tends to evaporate and lose efficacy prior to use, a protein is also employed to enhance the composition's long term stability and antimicrobial efficacy. The protein tends to form a substantially continuous film when coated onto the fibrous web. Because such proteins are typically stiff and brittle, a continuous film would restrict the ability of the fibers to move and bend, reducing web flexibility and drape. Thus, it is typically desired that the antimicrobial composition form a discontinuous coating on the web. In this regard, the present inventors have surprisingly discovered that the addition of an organopolysiloxane can help achieve a discontinuous coating without adversely impacting the ability of the protein to stabilize the oil.

Methods for adjusting the solubility of a botanical oil in water, along with the resulting modified botanical oil and related products (e.g., treatment compositions, wipes, absorbent articles, etc.) are provided. In one embodiment, the method includes reacting the botanical oil to form a reactive product (e.g., having a hydroxyl group); and attaching a hydrophilic end group (e.g., a carboxylic acid, a carboxylic acid salt, a sugar, etc.) on the reactive product to form a modified botanical oil. The modified botanical oil generally, in most embodiments, has a greater solubility in water than the botanical oil (e.g., a solubility in water of about 10 grams per 100 grams of water or greater, such as completely soluble in water). The botanical oil includes, in one particular embodiment, an essential oil, such as those essential oil that include at least one terpene compound.
