A printer having a beltless guide for guiding print media around a curved media feed path. The guide includes: first and second opposed guide surfaces for guiding print media therebetween; and a chicane corresponding to a point of inflection in the curved media feed path. The media path does not follow a curvature of the chicane and the chicane is configured to transfer print media from contact with the second surface to contact with the first surface or vice versa.

A printer includes: a media tray; a picker; a media guide for guiding the media sheets around a media feed path towards a print zone; a main drive roller assembly positioned upstream of the print zone; and an intermediary drive roller assembly positioned between the picker and the main drive roller assembly. The intermediary drive roller assembly includes: an intermediary idler roller mounted on an intermediary idler shaft; and an intermediary drive roller having a gripping surface engaged with the intermediary idler roller. An intermediary drive shaft is pivotally connected to a support shaft via a swing arm, such that the intermediary drive shaft is arcuately moveable relative to the intermediary idler shaft to provide a variable distance therebetween.

A printhead assembly with a printhead and a shut off () valve that has a valve body () defining an ink inlet () for connection to an ink supply, an ink outlet () connected to the printhead IC. A diaphragm () is biased into sealing engagement with the valve seat () to provide a fluid seal between the ink inlet and the ink outlet. An actuator () unseals the diaphragm from the valve seat when energized. The valve protects the ink in the ink supply from contaminants that can migrate up the ink line during shut down periods. The diaphragm is biased to a closed position and so seals the ink supply from the printhead as a default condition even in the event of a power failure. The bias is strong enough to provide the fluid seal so that the seal is not compromised when the pressure difference between the inlet and the outlet is small.

The printer has a printhead, a sheet pick-up assembly having a conduit connected to a reversible air supply, the conduit having an outlet directed towards a top sheet of the stack for directing an airstream onto the top sheet such that air penetrates the top sheet and generates an air cushion lifting the top sheet from a second sheet, the reversible air supply configured to suck air into the outlet after the top sheet has lifted from the second sheet to hold the top sheet against the outlet and a sheet feed mechanism for displacing the conduit to draw the top sheet away from the stack.

A method of purging ink from an inkjet printhead is provided. The printhead is in fluid communication with an ink reservoir via an ink conduit. The method comprises compressing part of the ink conduit using a hammer mechanism, thereby purging ink from the printhead and flooding an ink ejection face of the printhead.

A method of cleaning an ink ejection face of an inkjet printhead is provided. The method comprises the steps of: (i) supplying cleaning liquid to the printhead via an ink conduit in fluid communication with nozzles in the printhead; and (ii) purging the cleaning liquid from the printhead, thereby flooding the face with cleaning liquid.
