A system and method for predicting rain fade. The method may include: training a Neural Network (NN) by importing into the NN a training set of image information and beacon information, wherein the image information includes image datasets including of a cloud view of an Area of Interest (AoI), a geolocation and a timestamp, and the beacon information includes beacon datasets including a beacon strength, a current rain fade state, a geolocation and a timestamp; pre-processing to homogenize and to extract spatially and temporally matching data for the AoI from a live image information and a live beacon information; and forecasting a rain fade based on the data in a near-future. The geolocation of the beacon datasets is located within the AoI, and the periodicity of the live beacon information and the live image information is less than or equal to five (5) minutes.

Deep learning for rain fade prediction in satellite communications

A computer comprises a processor and a memory. The memory stores instructions executable by the processor to input a frequency spectrum distribution to a machine learning program to obtain carrier data as output from the machine learning program satellite communication. The machine learning program is trained with a plurality of frequency spectrum distributions of a wireless satellite communication signal and metadata specifying one or more satellite communication carriers for respective ones of the frequency spectrum distributions, wherein the metadata for each satellite communication carrier includes a respective center frequency and a respective symbol rate.

Carrier acquisition in satellite communications

A receiver determines whether an outbound carrier frequency among a plurality of outbound carrier frequencies, as received, includes interference. Based at least in part on a result of the determining, a new outbound carrier frequency is selected for the receiver. Optionally, the receiver sends an interference report to a system controller.

Apparatus and methods for interference mitigation by satellite networks

A method of switching from a first gateway within a plurality of first gateways to a second gateway in a network includes precaching configuration information on the second gateway, that is within the first gateways, prior to switch-over to the second gateway. The first gateway from which the second gateway is being switched is identified. The second gateway is configured in accordance with the configuration of the first gateway based on the precached configuration information prior to the switch-over to the second gateway. Data traffic from data applications using the network is replicated and sent to the first gateway and the second gateway. Bandwidths allocated to terminals in the network are frozen in association with the switch-over to the second gateway. The bandwidths allocated to the terminals in the network are unfrozen based at least in part on an indication of completion of the switch-over to the second gateway.

Gateway diversity switching

A method and system for installing a terrestrial antenna for a satellite communication network. In the system and method, a remote unit is provided to an installation location for the terrestrial antenna. The remote unit is configured to communicate with a satellite of the satellite communication network and includes a memory in which is stored antenna information pertaining to positioning of the terrestrial antenna with respect to a virtual beam generated by the satellite. The information is accessible by a code. Thus, the antenna information is access from the memory at the installation location using the code, and the terrestrial antenna in relation to a virtual beam generated by the satellite based on the antenna information accessed from the memory at the installation location.

Satellite communication network terminal installation method and system

A method of and system for designing a satellite network includes selecting an optimal design for a backhaul network to be used as part of the satellite network, selecting a number of radio frequency (RF) gateways for the satellite network, selecting an optimal number of satellite network cores (SNCs) for the satellite network. The method may also include placing each SNC at a site that is geographically separate from locations of the RF gateways, selecting a number of data centers for the satellite network, connecting each SNC to one or more data centers in the satellite network, and connecting each data center to one or more of the RF gateways via the backhaul network.

A system and method for providing backup recovery from outage at a primary gateway in a satellite communication system. Upon detecting an alert indicative of an outage, communication between the primary gateway and a plurality of terminals located within spot beams serviced by the primary gateway is suspended. A pre-switchover routine is performed to initialize a backup gateway capable of being substituted for the primary gateway, and a switchover routine is performed to transfer operations from the primary gateway to the backup gateway. Communication is subsequently enabled between the backup gateway and the plurality of terminals.

System and apparatus for disaster backup gateway for a multi-gateway spot beam satellite

A shared bandwidth network system to communicate network traffic between terminals and an external network is disclosed. The system includes: a point of presence (POP) for the external network; Radio Frequency Gateways (RFGWs) wherein each RFGW of the RFGWs provides one or more Radio Frequency (RF) paths, and each of the RF paths links a respective RFGW of the RFGWs with one or more terminals of the terminals; an RF path state manager to manage a RF path state for each of the RF paths; a Satellite Network Core (SNC); a Software Defined Network (SDN) controller to maintain a topology based on the RF path states, wherein the topology includes the POP, the RFGWs and the SNC; and a network layer to route network traffic between the POP, the RFGWs and the SNC based on the topology. The SNC includes a bandwidth manager to allocate bandwidth, to provide flow control to the terminals, and to provide a key state including a bandwidth allocation for each of the terminals, a key state manager to maintain the key states, and a link layer control (LLC) to transport network traffic over each of the RF paths.

Maintaining and distributing state due to temporary failures in a shared bandwidth network

A system and method for establishing virtual beams for initial timing synchronization in a satellite communication network. The system and method perform operations of estimating, by a controller, a maximum satellite position error associated with an estimated position of a satellite of the satellite communication network within a satellite location space, and estimating, by a controller, a maximum remote unit position error associated with estimated position of a remote unit that is configured to communicate with the satellite of the satellite communication network. The system and method thus establish, by a controller, a size of the virtual beam based on the maximum satellite position error and the maximum remote unit position error.
