An alkylaromatic hydrocarbon composition prepared by the process which comprises oligomerizing an olefin selected from the group consisting of propylene, n-butene and mixtures thereof over an oligomerization catalyst, to form a oligomerization product comprising at least 95% by weight of mono-olefin oligomers of the empirical formula:CHwherein n is greater than or equal to 10, the mono-olefin oligomers comprise at least 20% by weight of olefins having at least 12 carbon atoms, and the olefins having at least 12 carbon atoms having an average of from 0.8 to 2.0 C-Calkyl branches per carbon chain. Sulfonation of the alkylaromatic hydrocarbon product produces an alkylaryl sulfonate mixture that exhibits advantageous properties, such as biodegradability and hard and cold water performance.

Preparation of alkylaromatic hydrocarbons and alkylaryl sulfonates

In a process for preparing an alkylaromatic hydrocarbon composition an olefinic hydrocarbon mixture and an aromatic compound are contacted under alkylation conditions with an aromatic alkylation catalyst selected from a homogeneous acid catalyst and heterogeneous acid catalyst comprising a molecular sieve having an X-ray diffraction pattern including d-spacing maxima at 12.4&#xb1;0.25, 6.9&#xb1;0.15, 3.57&#xb1;0.07 and 3.42&#xb1;0.07 Angstroms. The olefinic hydrocarbon mixture comprises at least 5 wt % by weight of mono-olefin oligomers of the empirical formula:CHwherein n is greater than or equal to 10, the mono-olefin oligomers comprising at least 20 percent by weight of olefins having at least 12 carbon atoms, and the olefins having at least 12 carbon atoms having an average of from 0.8 to 2.0 C-Calkyl branches per carbon chain. Sulfonation of the alkylaromatic hydrocarbon product produces an alkylaryl sulfonate mixture that exhibits advantageous properties, such as biodegradability and hard and cold water performance.

In a process for oligomerizing a Cto Cn-olefin feedstock over surface deactivated ZSM-23, the feedstock contains from about 0.1 wt % to about 25 wt % of an iso-olefin and the C+ fraction of the oligomerized olefin product contains less than 0.5 atom % of quaternary carbon atoms.

Olefin oligomerization process

A selectivated molecular sieve, e.g., ZSM-22 or ZSM-23, is used as olefin oligomerization catalyst to provide product, e.g., octenes and dodecenes from butene, having a low degree of branching and hindered double bonds.

Oligomerization of olefins

In a process for preparing an olefinic hydrocarbon mixture comprising at least 5% by weight of mono-olefin oligomers of the empirical formula:CHwhere n is greater than or equal to 6, a feedstock comprising n-butene and propylene in a molar ratio of about 1:0.01 to about 1:0.49 is contacted under oligomerization conditions with surface deactivated ZSM-23. The resultant mono-olefin oligomers comprise at least 20 percent by weight of olefins having at least 12 carbon atoms, wherein said olefins having at least 12 carbon atoms have an average of from about 0.8 to about 2.0 C&#x2013;Calkyl branches per carbon chain.

Process for preparing and olefinic hydrocarbon mixture

A process for reproducibly forming a thermally and oxidatively stable high hydroxyl glycerol di-ester compound which is particularly useful as a lubricant. The glycerol di-ester compound is formed by reacting a glycidyl ester with an excess of a neo acid salt. The di-ester product is produced in a nearly quantitative conversion and is readily recoverable from the reaction mixture via a water wash, vacuum dry, and a mild wiped film evaporator treatment.

A synthetic ester composition exhibiting low odor, and high thermal and oxidative stability which comprises the reaction product of: (a) a polyol which comprises at least dipentaerythritol, e.g., technical grade pentaerythritol and mixtures of technical grade pentaerythritol or dipentaerythritol and monopentaerythritol; and (b) a mixture of monocarboxylic acids comprising at least one linear acid selected from the group consisting of between C,-C,acids and at least one branched acid selected from the group consisting of C,-C,acids, wherein the amount of C,and C,acids is between about 20 to 45 weight %, based upon the total amount of said mixture of monocarboxylic acids, and wherein said synthetic ester composition has a viscosity of at least 4 cSt at 99&deg; C., a viscosity of less than about 8,000 cSt at 40&deg; C., and a pour point of at least as low as &minus;54&deg; C.

A polyol ester distillate fuel additive exhibits improved lubricity and friction and wear performance. The ester has between about 1% and about 35% unconverted hydroxyl groups and is characterized as having a hydroxyl number from about 5 to about 180.

A crankcase engine lubricant which comprises the add mixture of the following components: (A) a lubricating oil which comprises the add mixture of the following components: a complex alcohol ester basestock and at least one additional basestock; and (B) an additive package; wherein the crankcase engine lubricant exhibits a percent fuel economy improvement in the range between about 0.3 to 5.0%, versus the lubricating oil without the complex alcohol ester basestock.

A lubricant which is prepared from at least one synthetic ester composition exhibiting thermal and oxidative stability which comprises the reaction product of 3,5,5-trimethyl-1-hexanol and an acid or anhydride; and a lubricant additive package; whereby the incorporation of an antioxidant in the lubricant additive package for the purpose of maintaining oxidative and thermal stability of the crankcase lubricating oil formulation to at least 20 minutes as measured by HPDSC at 220.degree. C., 3.445 MPa air and 0.5 wt. % dioctyl diphenyl amine can be either reduced or eliminated. The synthetic ester composition preferably exhibits the following additional properties: a metals content of 10 ppm or less metals based on the total synthetic ester composition, an ash content of 15 ppm or less ash based on the total synthetic ester composition, a total acid number of 0.05 mg KOH/g or less, and a volume resistivity of at least about 1.times.10.sup.11 ohm cm.

The improvement is accomplished by providing a plurality of zones and/or stages for injecting a suitable reducing gas and then injecting the reducing gas through one or more of said zones. The particular zone or zones actually used will be determined by temperature of the combustion effluent gas in the immediate vicinity thereof.
