An electrical connector including a housing defining an interior cavity and extending from a mounting end to an engagement end, and at least one signal component disposed within the interior cavity of the housing. The housing is formed from a conductive composite material and engages the at least one signal component to shield the interior cavity.

High speed connector with moldable conductors

An electrical connector includes a housing and contact assemblies. The housing includes shroud walls and a base having a front side and a rear side. The front side of the base and the shroud walls define a cavity configured to receive a mating connector. The base is electrically conductive and has chambers extending therethrough that are defined by chamber walls. The contact assemblies are received in the chambers. Each contact assembly has a signal pod surrounded on at least two sides by a ground shield. The signal pod includes a dielectric body holding a pair of signal contacts. The dielectric body engages interior sides of the ground shield to electrically insulate the signal contacts from the ground shield. Exterior sides of the ground shield engage the chamber walls of the base to electrically connect the ground shield to the base.

Electrical connector having commoned ground shields

Electrical connector includes a connector housing. The electrical connector also includes a plurality of signal conductors coupled to the connector housing. Each of the signal conductors has a first terminal, a second terminal, and an elongated conductor body extending between the first and second terminals. The first terminals are configured to engage corresponding conductive elements of an electrical component. The electrical connector also includes a ground structure coupled to the connector housing. The ground structure is positioned between adjacent signal conductors and has an exterior surface. At least a portion the exterior surface has a textured area that is configured to dampen reflected energy that propagates there along.

Electrical connector and ground structure configured to reduce electrical resonance

An electrical connector includes a housing, signal pods, and ground shields. The housing has a base that is electrically conductive. The base has chambers and ground slots extending therethrough. The chambers are defined by chamber walls that separate the chambers from the ground slots. The signal pods, which each include a dielectric body holding a pair of signal contacts, are received in the chambers. The dielectric body engages the chamber walls and electrically insulates the signal contacts from the base. The ground shields are received in the ground slots. Each ground shield surrounds an associated signal pod on at least two sides to provide electrical shielding for the signal contacts in the signal pod from other signal contacts.

Cable connector including a connector body extending along a longitudinal axis between a mating side and a loading side of the connector body. The connector body is oriented with respect to a mating axis that is perpendicular to the longitudinal axis. The cable connector also includes electrical conductors having body segments that extend through the connector body between the mating and loading sides and contact beams that project from the mating side. The contact beams have mating interfaces that are configured to directly engage corresponding electrical contacts of a mating component during a mating operation. The contact beams are shaped to extend along the longitudinal axis away from the mating side and along the mating axis such that the mating interfaces form a two-dimensional (2D) array that is oriented substantially perpendicular to the mating axis.

An electrical connector includes a housing and a plurality of contact modules and ground plates held by the housing. Each contact module includes left and right signal wafers stacked next to each other along a stack axis. The signal wafers include electrical terminals held by a dielectric body. The electrical terminals have mounting contacts protruding from the dielectric body at a mounting face of the housing. The electrical terminals of at least one of the signal wafers in each contact module are jogged toward the other signal wafer such that the mounting contacts of each contact module align in a column. Each of the ground plates is disposed along an outer side of a corresponding contact module.

A substrate is disclosed that is configured to receive an electrical component. The substrate comprises a plurality of first vias and a plurality of second vias. The plurality of first vias is arranges in the substrate in a matrix of rows and columns and is configured to provide mounting of the electric component, each first via associated with one of its closest neighbor first via to form a pair. The plurality of second vias is capable of being electrically commoned to one another and is positioned amongst the plurality of first vias such that there is at least one second via positioned directly between each first via and any of the closest non-pair first via neighbors.

Electrical connector system

An electrical connector includes a contact module that has a lead frame and a dielectric frame that encases the lead frame. The dielectric frame includes opposite sides and a mating edge and a mounting edge. The dielectric frame has voids that extend from the sides to expose the lead frame. The lead frame has a plurality of contacts that have transition portions that extend between mating portions that extend from the mating edge and mounting portions that extend from the mounting edge. The transition portions have compensation segments and intermediate segments between the compensation segments. The intermediate segments are encased in the dielectric frame. The compensation segments are exposed by the voids. The compensation segments have a geometry that differs from a geometry of the intermediate segments.

An electrical connector includes a housing having a front and a rear opposite the housing with a rear wall at the rear. The housing has a slot open through the front that receives a mating connector therein. The housing has contact openings through the rear wall and a ground clip channel in the rear wall open at the rear. Signal contacts are held in the housing and arranged in pairs. The signal contacts are received in corresponding contact openings and are arranged within the slot to mate with the mating connector. Ground contacts are held in the housing and are arranged between corresponding signal contacts. The ground contacts are received in corresponding contact openings and are arranged within the slot to mate with the mating connector. A ground clip is loaded into the ground clip channel. The ground clip engages the ground contacts to create a ground circuit between the ground contacts engaged by the ground clip.

High-speed backplane connectors systems for mounting a substrate that are capable of operating at speeds of up to at least 25 Gbps, while in some implementations also providing pin densities of at least 50 pairs of electrical connectors per inch are disclosed. Implementations of the high-speed connector systems may provide ground shields and/or ground structures that substantially encapsulate electrical connector pairs, which may be differential electrical connector pairs, in a three-dimensional manner throughout a backplane footprint, a backplane connector, and a daughtercard footprint. These encapsulating ground shields and/or ground structures prevent undesirable propagation of non-traverse, longitudinal, and higher-order modes when the high-speed backplane connector systems operates at frequencies up to at least 30 GHz.

A ground shield is provided for an electrical connector mounted on a printed circuit. The ground shield includes a body extending from a mating interface to a mounting interface. An electrical ground path is defined through the body between the mating and mounting interfaces. The mating interface includes a mating contact configured to engage a mating connector. The mounting interface includes a mounting contact configured to engage the printed circuit. The body includes two conductive layers separated by a dielectric substance such that a capacitor is provided within the electrical ground path.

Ground shield for an electrical connector

An electrical terminal of the type to be inserted into an aperture of an electrical panel member is provided. The electrical terminal may include a base, an insertion portion extending from the base to a first end, a slit formed through the insertion portion and defining a compliant portion having a first leg and a second leg. A segment of the first leg may be deformed in one direction, while a segment of the second leg may deformed in the opposite direction. Midpoints of each or both legs may be offset from the midpoint of the slit to achieve improved mechanical and electrical performance within a connector. Also provided is an electrical terminal having a tip that facilitates alignment with a panel member aperture and provides tactile feedback to a user, as well as an electrical terminal having a mounting end that is substantially smaller than its mating end, and connectors containing such terminals. Methods of routing electrical traces between adjacent electrical terminals are also provided.
