Techniques are described for associating identifiers (e.g., digital watermarks) with video content in a way that enables identification of the source of pirated content with specificity as granular as an individual user account. A compositors operating in the DRM trust zone of a client device introduces the identifier by compositing overlay information with decoded video frames. The identifier may then be recovered by comparing target content to the source content to extract the overlay information.

Client-side watermarking of video content

Techniques are described for encoding information in manifest data in a way that enables identification of a version of media content. Such a capability may be used to identify dynamic content inserted into the media content for the purpose of tracking the effect of the dynamic content on user generated feedback. This capability might also be used to identify a user or device associated with a particular copy of the media content for anti-piracy purposes.

Encoding identifiers into customized manifest data

Described herein are systems and methods for selectively determining a set of segments of a live content stream to present at a user device to overcome a delay in the live content stream. A content manifest may be accessed that identifies locations of the segments of the set. Tagging information may be accessed that identifies action segments and other segments of the set. The set of segments can be determined based at least in part on the content manifest and the tagging information. The set of segments may be discontinuous in an unaltered stream, but may be presented continuously in a customized stream.
