According to one embodiment of the invention, a method is deployed for loading a user CA certificate into the trusted certificate storage of a network device. The method comprises a number of operations. A first operation involves a downloading of addressing information. Thereafter, a communication session is established using the addressing information for retrieval of a bootstrapping digital certificate that can be digitally verified by the network device using its factory settings. Keying information is extracted from the bootstrapping digital certificate and the keying information can be used to verify that the communication session is between the network device and a certificate server being different than a source for the addressing information. Upon verification that the network device is in communication with the certificate server, the user CA certificate is downloaded from the certificate server using a secure channel that is established based on the bootstrapping digital certificate.

Secure certificate installation on IP clients

A system and method for instant voice messaging in a telecommunication system. Users are able to compose, store, retrieve or listen to short messages. The instant voice messaging system provides two operating modes: auto mode and prompt mode. In auto mode, the instant voice message is played on the destination telephone set without user intervention. In prompt mode, the user at the destination telephone set controls playback of the instant voice message. According to another aspect, the instant voice messaging system provides a whisper mode of operation which allows voice messages to be sent and received when the user at the originating set and/or destination set is involved in another call.

Method and apparatus for instant voice messaging

A quality of service (QOS) server gathers information in relation to transport introduced delays and obliterations of so called real-time protocol (RTP) signal streams which are used to packetize signals of synchronous signals origins, for example origins such as telephones and raster scan apparatus, for transport via the IP network. The QOS server is able to provide recently gathered QOS information about a requested call, apriori the actual call set up. In an example of a PBX call centre, an automatic dialler is coupled with a QOS server and in relation to endpoint and route selected data, determines if an IP telephony call should proceed, contingent upon the probable QOS being sufficient, before a call controller initiates a call set up.

Internet protocol (IP) telecommunication

A key telephone system (KTS) or a telephone private branch exchange (PBX) card is integrated into a personal computer to provide telephone system features. The telephone card includes a call controller, a switching network and an interface bus controller for coupling data signals between the PCI bus and an internal bus of the call controller whereby the telephone card is able to communicate with resources of the PC such as a LAN and a hard disk bulk memory for executing telecommunications functions. In this arrangement the PCI bus must carry both asynchronous data processing and control signals as well as reformatted synchronous signals. The addition of a synchronous bus for transporting synchronous signals is used to couple these signals between the switching network, a telephony features controller and the hard disk bulk memory. The use of the synchronous bus provides for improved telephone traffic capacity and PC functionality.
