The invention provides methods for providing improved image quality and water resistance of dye based ink images on substrates using aqueous dispersed mordants and dispersed hydrophobic materials.

Methods of fixing ink

Improved macroporous ink receptor media are disclosed. An inkjet receptive media in accordance with one embodiment of the present invention comprises a web comprising a plurality of fibers and a coating overlaying at least a portion of a plurality of the fibers. In a preferred embodiment, the coating comprises a plurality of organic particles. In a preferred embodiment, the fibers define a plurality of pores. In a preferred embodiment, the web defines a plurality of macropores. The fibers of the web may be woven or non-woven. In a preferred embodiment, the web comprises a nonwoven macroporous material.

Porous inkjet receptor media

Image transfer media and methods of transferring images are provided. The image transfer media comprise a sheet having a nonporous micro-embossed surface topography comprising cavities on one major surface of the sheet and an ink release coating on the embossed surface, wherein said major surface has a surface energy of about 43 dyne/centimeter or less. A method of transferring an image to a substrate comprises the steps of (a) printing a selected image onto an imaging surface of an image transfer medium of the invention; (b) contacting the imaged micro-embossed surface with the substrate using pressure; and (c) removing the micro-embossed surface of the image transfer medium from the substrate.

A non-crosslinked composition suitable for coating onto an ink-jet recording sheet comprising. a) at least one nonionic fluorocarbon surfactant, b) at least one alkanolamine metal chelate wherein said metal is selected from the group consisting of titanium, zirconium and aluminum, and c) at least one polymer selected from the group consisting of hydroxycellulose and substituted hydroxycellulose polymers, such composition being crosslinkable when subjected to temperatures of at least about 90.degree. C.

A cellulose polymer network crosslinked with metal ions selected from the group consisting of: Al.sup.+3, Zr.sup.+4, and Ti.sup.+4, the crosslinked cellulose polymer network having incorporated therein a colloidal sol containing metal oxide-hydroxide particles wherein the metal is Al, Zr, or Ti. The inventive material is optically clear and can be used to cast microporous films, either supported or unsupported, which are useful as coatings on ink jet recording materials.
