Water soluble paint remover compositions for the removal of uncured paint are disclosed which avoid the use of toxic organic solvent, in particular, methylene chloride. The inventive compositions comprise an organic carboxylic acid, N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone, and an alkylene glycol ether. Methods for use of the compositions are also disclosed.

Paint removing compositions

A carboxylated latex is added to an aqueous slurry of fibers to remove metal ions contained in solution. The water is removed to form a felt. The demetallized water removed during felt formation is recycled in a closed process water system. The carboxylated latex is formed by polymerizing an unsaturated carboxylic acid on a substantially surfactant free styrene-diene polymer latex.

Water purifying latex binder

A binder composition for asbestos fibers comprises a latex blend in which the dispersed phase comprises (1) from about 80 to 99.5 weight percent of a synthetic rubber and (2) from about 0.5 to 20 weight percent of a highly carboxylated polymer. The highly carboxylated polymer is a copolymer or terpolymer containing (1) an .alpha.,.beta.-unsaturated carboxylic acid, (2) an alkyl ester of an .alpha.,.beta.-unsaturated carboxylic acid, and optionally (3) an ethylenically unsaturated organic monomer which is copolymerizable with monomers (1) and (2) to form a stable latex.

Latex blend binder compositions for asbestos sheets

Compositions for controlling foam in aqueous systems are prepared by dispersing in an organic liquid the particles of an amide with the reaction product of an alkyl or aryl halosilane and a base. Polymers, fatty acids and glycerides may also be present as organic components in the compositions. These compositions do not lose defoaming ability or increase in viscosity after they are heated at elevated temperatures or stored for long periods of time.
