The invention relates to dispersions of porous solids in liquids selected from deep eutectic solvents, liquid oligomers, bulky liquids, liquid polymers, silicone oils, halogenated oils, paraffin oils or triglyceride oils, as well as to their methods of preparation. In embodiments of the invention, the porous solids are metal organic framework materials (MOFs), zeolites, covalent organic frameworks (COFs), porous inorganic materials, Mobil Compositions of Matter (MCMs) or a porous carbon. The invention also relates to the use of porous materials to form dispersions, and to assemblages of such dispersions with a gas or gases. The dispersions can exhibit high gas capacities and selectivities.

The present invention relates to a process for the removal of naphthenic acids from crude oils and crude oil distillates by use of supported basic ionic liquids.

The invention relates to a method of inhibiting corrosion by corrosive fluids, and more specifically to inhibiting corrosion of a metallic surface. The method comprising adding to the corrosive fluid a specifically selected ionic liquid which is added in an amount, based on the total weight of the corrosive fluid, effective to mitigate or alleviate corrosion.

Corrosion inhibition

According to one aspect of the invention, there is provided the use of an organic ionic liquid in a zeolite-catalysed process, for example an acylation, alkylation, isomerisation or hydrocracking process in which zeolites act as catalysts or catalyst precursors, especially Friedel-Crafts alkylation and acylation procedures.

A method for separating a metal from a composition including the metal involves forming an electrolytic cell in which the anode comprises a composition including the metal. The electrolyte is an ionic liquid. A sufficient potential difference is applied between the anode and the cathode to cause the metal to transfer from the anode to the cathode deposited thereon.

Process for separating metals

A method of removing from a metal salt ionic species contained therein involves contacting the metal salt with an ionic liquid to dissolve the metal salt, the ionic species or both. At least in the case where both the metal salt and the ionic species are dissolved, the resultant ionic liquid composition is treated to separate the ionic species therefrom and subsequently processed to recover the metal salt.
