Bidirectional barbed suture

The present invention relates to tissue-supporting medical devices and drug delivery systems, and more particularly to tubular flexible stents that are implanted within a body lumen of a living animal or human to support the organ, maintain patency and/or deliver drugs or agents. The tubular flexible stent has a cylindrical shape defining a longitudinal axis and includes a helical section having of a plurality of longitudinally oriented strut members and a plurality of circumferentially oriented hinge members connecting circumferentially adjacent strut members to form a band. The band is wrapped about the longitudinal axis in a substantially helical manner to form a plurality of helical windings. At least one connector member extends between longitudinally adjacent helical windings of the band.

Flexible stent design

A biocompatible material may be configured into any number of implantable medical devices including intraluminal stents. Polymeric materials may be utilized to fabricate any of these devices, including stents. The stents may be balloon expandable or self-expanding. The polymeric materials may include additives such as drugs or other bioactive agents as well as radiopaque agents. By preferential mechanical deformation of the polymer, the polymer chains may be oriented to achieve certain desirable performance characteristics. The stent has a plurality of hoop components interconnected by a plurality of flexible connectors. The hoop components are formed as a continuous series of substantially longitudinally or axially oriented radial strut members and alternating substantially circumferentially oriented radial arc members. The geometry of the struts and arcs is such that when the stent is expanded, it has very high strains within a relatively small region. This strain localization results in what is often referred to as 'hinging', where the hinge is the small region within which the strains are very high.

A biocompatible material may be configured into any number of implantable medical devices including intraluminal stents. Polymeric materials may be utilized to fabricate any of these devices, including stents. The stents may be balloon expandable or self-expanding. The polymeric materials may include additives such as drugs or other bioactive agents as well as radiopaque agents. By preferential mechanical deformation of the polymer, the polymer chains may be oriented to achieve certain desirable performance characteristics. The stent has a plurality of hoop components interconnected by at least one flexible connector. The hoop components are formed as a continuous series of alternating substantially longitudinally oriented strut members and connector junction struts, whereas the longitudinal strut is connected to the connector junction strut by alternating substantially circumferentially oriented arc members.

A graft ligament anchor comprises a graft ligament engagement member disposed in an opening in a bone, the graft ligament engagement member being arranged to receive a graft ligament alongside the engagement member, and a locking member for disposition in the opening, and at least in part engageable with the graft ligament engagement member. Movement of the locking member in the opening causes the locking member to urge the engagement member, and the graft ligament therewith, toward a wall of the opening, to secure the graft ligament to the wall of the opening. A method for attaching a graft ligament to a bone is also provided.

A graft ligament anchor comprises a graft ligament engagement member disposed in an opening in a bone, the graft ligament engagement member being arranged to receive a graft ligament alongside the engagement member, and a locking member for disposition in the opening, and at least in part engageable with the graft ligament engagement member. Movement of the locking member in the opening causes the locking member to urge the engagement member, and the graft ligament therewith, toward a wall of the opening, to secure the graft ligament to the wall of the opening. A method for attaching a graft ligament to a bone comprises providing an opening in the bone, inserting the graft ligament and a graft ligament engagement member in the opening, with the graft ligament disposed alongside a first portion of the engagement member, and inserting a locking member in the bone alongside a second portion of the engagement member, the locking member being separated from the graft ligament by the graft ligament engagement member. The method further comprises moving the locking member to cause the locking member to engage the graft ligament engagement member to urge the graft ligament engagement member, and the graft ligament therewith, toward a wall of the opening to secure the graft ligament to the wall of the opening.

Polymeric stent having modified molecular structures

An apparatus for compressing a coiled stent having at least one protrusion, such as an enlarged coil disposed at the end of the stent, has a mandrel insertable into a lumen of the stent for holding the stent by friction and a coil compressor coupled to the mandrel. The mandrel is rotatable on an axis relative to the coil compressor and the coil compressor has a tab extending therefrom towards the mandrel. A stent is placed on the mandrel with the enlarged coil extending toward the coil compressor. The tab presses the enlarged coil inwardly toward the lumen of the stent when the mandrel is rotated relative to the coil compressor.

Urethral stent reducer

Systems and methods for fatigue testing one or more stents based on measured electrical resistance levels of each stent. Pairs of lead lines from an ohmmeter are connected to a respective stent. The respective stent is mounted onto an expander having an interior tapered portion into which a correspondingly tapered expansion pin is received. Cyclic loading strains are applied to the respective stent as an expansion pin is inserted into a corresponding one of the expanders. Stent fracture or failure occurs when cyclic loading exceeds the stents architectural and material capacity. Such fracture fatigue or failure is identified by increased electrical resistance levels. Resistance may be continuously monitored to more readily identify the onset of fatigue or failure. The expansion pins extend from a movable plate, and the expanders comprise a part of corresponding stations that extend from a fixed plate.

Systems and methods for fatigue testing stents

A surgical anchor inserter is equipped to receive or hold two or more bone anchors or the like. A corresponding number of ejection mechanisms can be actuated in concert to simultaneously deploy the anchors.

A bone anchor for securing sutures or cables within a hole opening in a bone includes a screw element and a washer, which is separate from and independent of the screw element. The end of the cable to be secured within the bone hole opening is knotted or otherwise secured to the washer, thereby isolating the cable from the twisting of the screw element during insertion of the anchoring device into the hole opening in the bone.

Threaded cable anchor

A bone anchoring device for securing suture or cable within a bone hole opening of a bone includes a radially expandable sheath, an expander member for expanding the sheath and a washer. The cable or suture is secured within the bone hole opening such that an end tip thereof is knotted or secured to the washer to prevent separation therefrom. The cable or suture is not affected by the bearing load placed on the expander member during anchor deployment, and the bearing load acting on the cable member is transferred through the washer to the sheath, and not to the expander member.
