Die handling systems and methods of use for preparing or processing dies from multiple types of pre-expanded wafer materials. The die handling systems are configured in a modular fashion, allowing for concurrent processes to expand the wafers, process the wafers, extract the dies, and inspect the extracted dies without forcing one of the processes of the system to remain idle. Embodiments of the wafer handler module include a mechanism, such as an expander capable of stretching or expanding wafers having one or more different sizes to a pre-expanded state without interrupting the die handler. The pre-expanded wafers are stored as a proprietary cartridge and delivered to the die handler, where a pick head of the die handler removes each die of the pre-expanded wafer and delivers the extracted dies to subsequent machinery, such as a pick and place machine, for further processing.

Modular die handling system

A Self-Aligning Zipper is disclosed that allows for one handed operation by anyone who would, otherwise use a zipper or use of the Self-Aligning Zipper by those with physical and developmental limitations or equipment such, as cold weather gloves or mittens. The proper alignment of each half of the Self-Aligning Zipper is accomplished by way of magnets of opposite polarity along with structural guide elements to ensure proper alignment and operation of the zipper.

Self-aligning zipper

A fastening device that provides for ease of alignment and operation. The fastening device has a first locking body having a first magnet, a second locking body having a second magnet, a slider body slidably connected to a first zipper track, the first locking body affixed to the first zipper track, and the second locking body affixed to a second zipper track. The first and second locking bodies reversibly form a single element while in use through the attractive force of the first and second magnets.

A fastening device comprising a pin affixed to a first zipper track, the pin comprising a first magnet and at least a first engaging element; a box affixed to a second zipper track, the box comprising a second magnet and comprising at least a second engaging element complementary to the first engaging element of the pin, wherein the pin and box form a single element through the releasable interaction of the first and second magnets, and the first engaging element of the pin reversibly interacting with the second engaging element of the box; and a first slider body, wherein the first slider body comprises at least one releasing element that reversibly disengages the first engaging element of the pin from the second engaging element of the box. The fastening device can also include a second slider body component comprising a second magnet and defining at least one groove element, wherein the first and second slider body components form a single slider body through the releasable interaction of the first and second magnets, and the ridge element of the first slider body component removably fitting into the groove element of the second slider body component.

The present invention is a method and apparatus for the automatic loading and advancement of component feeder tape in a component feeder for use with a pick-and-place system. The feeder employs sensing technology to determine when a component tape leader is inserted into a tape guide, and subsequently auto-loads the feeder with the tape, including initiating the peeling of cover tape. Subsequently, the feeder operates to sense the presence of parts or components in the component tape pockets and to advance the component tape to a position where the first component is presented at the pick location. The feeder is also capable of detecting repeatable features in the component tape in order to automatically determine the component tape pitch.

Self-threading component tape feeder

The present invention is a method and apparatus conveying a roll of liner stock bearing removably adhered components such as labels. The liner is pulled through the feeder by a capstan drive having opposed fluted nip rollers driven by a stepper motor. Advance of the stepper motor is controlled by a programmable electronic controller. The linered labels are led through a tensioner and around an acute-angle peeler edge which separates the labels from the liner. The peeling action advances a label onto a platform comprising a bed of rollers having an inherently low-adherence surface. Preferably the rollers are undercut to form circumferential ridges and reduce the surface area in contact with the label adhesive and to minimize adherence thereto. When peeling of a label is completed, the label has been advanced onto the roller bed to precisely the proper location for acquisition by a pick-and-place machine. The presence of a label on the platform is confirmed by a sensor that signals the controller to stop further liner advance. The signal also serves to reset the feeder for advance of the next label after the first label is picked from the roller bed.
