An arc discharge lamp body made from a material selected from glass and ceramic materials and defining a discharge space; an arc generating and sustaining medium contained within said discharge space; and an electrically conducting member in at least one end of said body and extending both interiorly and exteriorly thereof, said electrically conducting member being formed of an electrically conductive ceramic material having a thermal coefficient of expansion substantially matching that of said body.

Ceramic feedthroughs for discharge lamps

This invention relates to the lead-in wires used in association with press seals in soda-lime glass for achieving electrical connection into the sealed envelope of a compact fluorescent lamp. The lead-in wires have a core comprising nickel and iron. A metallic plating on the core prevents formation of Fe.sub.2 O.sub.3 during lamp sealing. The invention improves lamp life by maintaining seal integrity at elevated seal temperatures.

Lead-in wire for compact fluorescent lamps

An arc discharge lamp having a sealed envelope including at least two longitudinally extending leg members spaced a predetermined distance thereapart and joined together by a transversely extending envelope portion. Support spacer means formed from the envelope (e.g., by blow molding) prevents breakage of the transversely extending envelope portion caused by inward deflection of the leg members. Preferably, the support spacer means includes a plurality of truncated-cone shaped protrusions extending laterally between the leg members.
