An image processing system incorporates a distortion correction (DC) sub-system in order to quickly correct skewed images. The DC sub-system includes a buffer, a processor and a sparse matrix table (SMT). The buffer is sized according to an amount of distortion in an input image. Input image pixels from an input frame are buffered in the buffer, and other input image pixels from the same frame overwrite the buffered input image pixels, reducing latency of the DC sub-system. The SMT is dynamically configurable and provides mapping values for mapping output pixels to input pixels. The processor implements combinational logic, including multipliers, lookup tables and adders. The combinational logic interpolates flow control parameters, pixel coordinate values, and pixel intensity values. The distortion correction values are streamed to a display or provided to a subsequent image processing block for further processing.

Low-power and low-latency distortion correction for image processors

A method of operating an optical system is described. An image is detected. A digital image signal based on a spatially varying luminance level of the detected image is received. Horizon data, separate from the digital image signal, indicating the position of a horizon where a sky is adjacent the horizon, is received. The position of the horizon is determined based on the received horizon data. A fused image signal is provided based on the received digital image signal and the determined position of the horizon where a sky region indicative of the sky is provided with an enhanced color fused with the varying luminance level of the detected image. A full color display displays a fused image based on the fused image signal. A corresponding optical system is also described.

Night sky spatial orientation using color and surface fusion

An optical system is described. The optical system has an optical amplifier array. The optical amplifier array has an array of optical amplifiers. Each optical amplifier has an optical amplifier region including a semiconductor active region having a direct electronic band gap with a conduction band edge. The semiconductor active region is embedded within a photonic crystal having an electromagnetic band gap having photon energies overlapping the energy of the conduction band edge of the electronic band gap such that spontaneous emission of photons in the semiconductor active region is suppressed.

Systems and methods using optical amplifiers

A low-latency method for applying image processing steps includes processing and displaying portions of the image as they are received in real-time. In a denoising process, the portion is denoised by selecting pixels, establishing a block centered on each pixel, identifying similar blocks within the portion, and performing a filtering process such as hard thresholding before the entire image is received. Pixels within each block may also be averaged.

The sensor system and the display system are mechanically separate from each other and mechanically aligned with each other.

An optical amplifier includes a plurality of photon amplifying regions. Each photon amplifying region includes a bottom electrode, an insulating layer formed over the bottom electrode, and having a through hole to the bottom electrode, a semiconductor layer and a top electrode formed over the semiconductor layer, wherein the top and bottom electrodes electrically contact the semiconductor layer. The semiconductor layer is formed over the insulating layer and in the through hole, and has a semiconductor active region in the through hole. Low noise optical pre-amplifier for ultra-low-light detectors and FPAs

An integrated circuit (IC) sensor is described. The IC sensor includes a pixel array and IC components. The pixel array has a plurality of pixels, wherein each pixel includes an EMR absorption region including a detector material having a plurality of nanoparticles embedded in a matrix material and exhibiting a nano-plasmonic property. The IC components are arranged to provide amplification of a voltage signal from the EMR absorption region, and to select the voltage signal from the EMR absorption region.

The present invention is directed to an electronic vision system. The system implements at least 3 apertures. A first aperture is set at near focus, while second and third apertures (positioned to the left and right of the first aperture respectively) are set at far focus. The fields of view of the left and right apertures may be spaced apart relative to each other, thereby forming a blind spot in the overall field of view of the system. However, the field of vision of the center aperture overlaps the blind spot, thereby reducing the blind spot for the system. The system includes a computer configured for receiving electronic image data from the apertures and rendering display data derived from the received image data. The system includes a display mounted to a mounting structure (ex.&#x2014;helmet) for receiving the display data and displaying visual images of the display data.
