A stabilized paraffin inhibitor/pour point depressant (PI/PPD) product formulation is described which includes a copolymer having a monomer selected from the group consisting of alkyl acrylate polymers, alkyl methacrylate polymers, and combinations thereof, where the copolymer comprises vinyl acetate and the product includes an ethylene-based copolymer. The presence of the vinyl acetate stabilizes the product to prevent or inhibit the ethylene-based copolymer from separating out of the product. The product is useful to reduce paraffin deposition and/or improve flow characteristics of petroleum fluids, such as crude oil.

Paraffin inhibitor/PPD products with vinyl acetate-alkyl acrylate/methacrylate copolymers combined with ethylene-based copolymers

A method of stabilizing asphaltenes in a petroleum hydrocarbon fluid is disclosed. The method includes contacting the petroleum hydrocarbon fluid with a polybenzoxazine comprising repeating structural units of Formula (I): wherein Ris hydrogen, a Calkyl, a Ccycloalkyl, a Caryl, a Calkylarylene, a Carylalkyl, a Cheteroaryl, or a Cheterocycloalkyl; and Ris a Calkyl, a Ccycloalkyl, a Caryl, a Calkylarylene, a Carylalkyl, a Cheteroaryl, or a Cheterocycloalkyl.

Polybenzoxazine asphaltene inhibitors

Methods of treating a petroleum hydrocarbon fluid are described wherein the petroleum hydrocarbon fluid is contacted with an asphaltene inhibitor composition having an ionic liquid and an asphaltene inhibitor. The ionic liquid has a cation of RRRRNor RRRNRNRRRand an anion, wherein R, R, R, R, R, Rand Rare independently selected from hydrogen, a straight or branched Calkyl group, benzyl, a Calkylbenzyl group, a Carylalkyl group, a straight or branched Calkenyl group, a Chydroxyalkyl group, a Chydroxyalkylbenzyl group, an oxyalkylene or a polyoxyalkylene group or a zwitterion; Ris a straight or branched Calkylene, an alkylene oxyalkylene or an alkylene polyoxyalkylene; and the anion includes halides, hydroxyl, bicarbonate, carbonate, alkyl carbonates, alkoxides, carboxylates, hydroxycarboxylates or a combination thereof.

Methods of using ionic liquid based asphaltene inhibitors

A method of stabilizing asphaltenes in a petroleum hydrocarbon fluid comprises contacting the petroleum hydrocarbon fluid with a mixed phenol aldehyde derived from an aldehyde and two or more unsubstituted or alkyl-substituted monophenols, the two or more unsubstituted or alkyl-substituted monophenols comprising a first phenol which is a Clinear or branched alkyl monophenol; and a second phenol which is unsubstituted or a Clinear or branched alkyl monophenol different from the first phenol, wherein the molar ratio of the first phenol relative to the second phenol is about 4:1 to about 1:4.

Phenol aldehydes asphaltene inhibitors

A petroleum-based fluid sample may be centrifuged in a centrifuge vial where a light may be passed through the petroleum-based fluid sample to identify an amount of transmitted light at two or more time intervals. The stability of the foulant(s) and/or efficacy of the foulant inhibitors to prevent the destabilization of the foulants may be determined by comparing a change in the amounts of transmitted light through the petroleum-based fluid sample. The petroleum-based fluid sample may include a petroleum-based fluid, at least one foulant, and an optional additive for destabilizing the foulant(s). The additive may be or include a first component, such as but not limited to n-alkanes, iso-alkanes, alkenes, alkynes, cyclo-alkanes, natural gas, natural gas condensate, alcohols, ethers, ketones, organic acids, acetates, carbon dioxide, and combinations thereof.

Method for characterizing the stability of foulants and/or efficacy of foulant inhibitors within petroleum-based fluids

Generating heat within a combination solvent/acid system removes undesirable deposits from petroleum reservoir formations (especially the near well-bore region), oilfield equipment, and petroleum processing equipment. An exothermic reaction occurs between the solvent and the acid and the heat evolved helps remove organic solid deposits. The acids may include organic acid compounds, such as sulfonic acids, sulfuric acid and nitric acid. The solvents may include terpene- and terpene-derivative-containing solvents, including, but not necessarily limited to, limonene, pinene, dipentene, myrcene, turpentines and compounds having at least one double bond, such as methyl furan, dienes, styrene, vinyl acetate and the like. The exothermic reaction produces a great amount of heat, and together with using certain acids and solvents already known as effective to remove paraffin and asphaltene deposition, removing such deposits is improved.

Heat generation process for treating oilfield deposits

Disclosed are paraffin inhibitors prepared by admixing a polymer having the characteristic of inhibiting paraffin crystalline growth in formation fluid from oil and gas wells with a first solvent selected from the weak to moderate wax solvents and a second solvent selected from the strong wax solvents. Exemplary weak to moderate wax solvents include benzene, toluene, xylene, ethyl benzene, propyl benzene, trimethyl benzene and mixtures thereof. Exemplary strong wax solvents include cyclopentane, cyclohexane, carbon disulfide, decalin and mixtures thereof. The solvent system disclosed has desirably better solubility with the polymers, even at reduced temperatures, than either solvent alone.
