Provided are methods, systems, and apparatuses related to modular electronics platforms for mobile computing devices. One such apparatus may include a system on module (SOM) having a first surface that is configured to be coupled electrically to one or more chipsets. The apparatus may include a land grid array (LGA) disposed on a second surface of the SOM. The LGA may include one or more center anchor pads, one or more corner anchor pads, a digital signal array, one or more communications pads, and one or more ground pads. The various pads of the LGA may be configured to be coupled to one or more pads or pins disposed on a surface of a main logic board (MLB).

A radio frequency identification (RFID) transponder may include a substrate and a device. The substrate may be in communication with a controller and an antenna, and the antenna is arranged to receive radio frequency signals. A first side surface of the substrate may include a capacitor. The device may be detachably coupled with the substrate via a conductive member positioned between the structure and the capacitor of the substrate, and the conductive member may be within a desired proximity of the capacitor. The structure may be attached to an attachment surface so that an attachment strength between the structure and the attachment surface may be greater than a force required to decouple the structure from the substrate. When the structure is decoupled from the substrate, the conductive member separates from the capacitor, disabling the transponder.

A handle assembly for a portable electronic device includes a handle attached to the electronic device and a trigger projecting from the handle. A replaceable trigger switch is selectively, mechanically retained by the handle, allowing simple replacement of the switch. In a first embodiment, the switch is located within a rechargeable battery pack, and the battery pack is removably retained within the handle. In a second embodiment, the replaceable trigger switch is retained within a trigger frame, and the trigger frame is removably retained within the handle.

A sealable, latchable door assembly for use with a hand-held, portable electronic device that has a housing adapted to removably receive a memory card in a receiving chamber through an opening. The door assembly includes a door shaped and sized to removably cover and seal the opening in the housing to retain and protect the memory card. The door has an engaging face adapted to sealably engage the housing around the opening. A connecting member attached to the door is slidably mounted within the housing to allow the door assembly to be slid between an extended, disengaged position and a retracted position with the door in a closed, sealed position. A latch attached to the door is adapted to releasably engage the housing to secure the door in the closed, sealed position. A hinge connected between the door and the connecting member enables the door to be pivoted downward to an open position to allow uninhibited passage of the memory card through the opening in the housing. The connecting member is slidably retained by guide channels in the housing.

An antenna apparatus for a hand-held symbology reader device having a housing and an elongated one-quarter wavelength antenna. A rotatable coupling member has an L-shaped conductor fixedly and electrically coupled to the antenna by a first end thereof. A second end of the L-shaped conductor is rotatably received by the housing. A ground plane of an electrically conductive material, having a plastic film coated thereon, is positioned within the housing. A washer of an electrically conductive material is electrically coupled to the second end of the L-shaped conductor, and is positioned in face-to-face juxtaposition with a portion of the ground plane. The washer and the portion of the ground plane form a parallel plate capacitor, with the plastic film forming a dielectric therebetween to capacitively couple the ground plane to the antenna. The antenna may be repeatedly rotated from an upright, transmitting/receiving position to a stowed position, without damage to the device or electrical disconnection between the antenna and the ground plane.

A latching system for a battery pack of a hand-held, portable electronic device. A primary latch on the front panel of the battery pack releasably engages a retaining shoulder portion within a battery housing to removably secure the battery pack in a fully installed, electrically connected position within the electronic device. Secondary latches are connected to the left and right side panels of the battery pack at a position away from the primary latch. Each secondary latch is adapted to releasably engage a secondary retaining shoulder within the housing to retain the battery pack in a partially removed position. Elongated electrical contacts are connected to the battery pack and provide electrical contact between the battery pack and the electronic as battery pack is moved from the installed position to the partially removed position. A switch coupled to the battery pack detects movement of the battery pack from the installed position. The primary and secondary latches each have an outwardly biased lever arm movably connected to the battery pack and a head member connected to the lever arm. The primary and secondary latches are arranged so the secondary latches are inaccessible until the battery pack is moved to the partially removed position.

An apparatus for reading a bar code symbol with an illumination beam of light. The apparatus includes an integrally formed lens with a first lens surface for transmitting the beam of light toward the bar code symbol along an optical axis and second and third lens surfaces for receiving any of the beam of light that is reflected from the bar code symbol and transmitting the received light along two distinct optical paths to two photodiodes. The two distinct optical paths are separated from each other and not aligned with the optical axis. The configuration of lenses provides an improved depth of field.

A connector for connecting internal circuitry of a bar code scanner to a connector plug. One end of a contact assembly is used together with a scanner chassis to form a receptacle for receiving the plug. The other end of the contact assembly connects with the internal circuitry. The contact assembly includes a plurality of wires with a ground wire that is bent to contact a scanner casing upon insertion of the contact assembly into the scanner casing. Two or more of the wires have lateral protrusions extending toward each other to provide points at which arcing is most likely in the event of an increased surge of current. One of the wires with the protrusions is also the wire that is bent outward so that any arcing is grounded to the scanner casing.

A tip assembly for a bar code scanner having a concentric design which prevents rotational, axial and tilting movement among the components of the tip assembly. A tip housing with an internal detent is snap fitted over a scanner housing having multiple cantilevered, flexible beams, each with a circumferential groove adapted to receive the detent therein. An optical assembly housing containing optics is received within the scanner housing, between the flexible beams thereof. The optical assembly housing has tabs extending outwardly to mate with corresponding recesses in the beams to prevent rotation of the optical assembly relative to the scanner housing. The tip housing is sized to frictionally engage and press the beams inward so they frictionally engage the optical assembly housing. A scanner barrel is positioned about the scanner housing and extends to a position outward of the lip portion of the tip housing to prevent outward travel of the beams, thus locking the tip assembly components securely together.
