A curfew timer apparatus for selectively disconnecting a signal line from an appliance. The apparatus includes a base and a timer coupled to the base. The timer is preferably a seven day timer configured to disconnect the signal line from the appliance during said preselected time periods and prevent usage of the appliance. The apparatus also lockable cover coupled to the base to protect and reduce the likelihood of tampering with the switch, the timer, the coupling means, and the connecting means. The base includes a flange surrounding an outer periphery of the base. The flange is configured to extend below a bottom surface of the base to abut a wall surrounding the wall outlet to reduce further the tampering risk. The apparatus further includes a three way switch for selectively continuously disconnecting the signal line from the appliance, continuously connecting the signal line to the appliance, or connecting the signal line to the appliance through the timer.

A method and apparatus for acoustic analysis of binary gas mixtures. A binary gas sample is drawn into a first chamber. A known reference gas is drawn into a second chamber. Acoustic energy is simultaneously transmitted through the respective chambers. Arrival of the first acoustic wave at the receiver of the reference chamber starts a counter that isolates a selected received pulse. The time between receipt of that selected reference pulse and the very next sample pulse is monitored and is transferred to a short term memory and then returned to its initial zero condition. After a quiescent time delay, the sequence is repeated. The resulting signal may be output as data and/or activate alarms if the output does not remain between predetermined upper and lower thresholds, thereby indicating an undesirable binary gas mixture.

Method and apparatus for acoustic analysis of binary gas mixtures with

A method and apparatus for continuously monitoring the ratio of gases in a two gas mixture such as a therapeutic oxygen/nitrogen mixture. The gas mixture is passed through a sample tube within which ultrasound waves travel in successive bursts of pulses at the resonant frequency of the transmitter/receiver pair. Between bursts is a quiescent time period having a duration long enough to assure dissipation of transients so that standing waves do not form. The delay caused by the transit time of the sound through the gas sample generates electrical pulses that are translated into an analog signal which is then temperature-corrected. The resulting voltage, which is proportional to the transit time and thus to the gas composition, is compared with adjustable reference voltages to trigger high and low audio/visual alarms. A digital display provides a constant readout of the percentage of the gas component having the highest molecular weight. The sample tube is contained inside a larger cylindrical body to enhance the gas flow and provide thermal insulation which allows temperature compensation to be accurately performed.

Method and apparatus for monitoring the content of binary gas mixtures

An apnea monitor having a capacitance type transducer pad providing a signal indicative of respiration. The resilient dielectric material between the capacitor plates is formed in two layers with the upper layer having a lesser spring constant to make the pad more sensitive around the periphery of the body to respond to respiratory motion while rejecting cardiovascular motion. The transduced signal is monitored and its gain is automatically adjusted to compensate for long term instability by a gain-set circuit arrangement having a time delay to assure that changes in the signal are not caused by apnea. A control voltage generated by the circuit operates the alarm without excessive time delay and is also used to provide a gain-set voltage for adjustment of the signal gain.
