The disclosed invention is embodied in an improved LED-based lighting fixture for projecting a beam of light having a substantially uniform intensity, rotationally, and a selectable, substantially uniform chromaticity. The lighting fixture includes (1) a concave reflector having circumferential facets, a focal region, an aperture, and a central opening; and (2) a light source assembly including two or more groups of LEDs mounted at the forward end of an elongated, thermally conductive support. The light source assembly is mounted relative to the reflector with the elongated support's longitudinal axis aligned with the reflector's longitudinal axis and with the groups of LEDs located at or near the reflector's focal region. Each of the two or more groups of LEDs includes a plurality of LEDs arranged in two or more columns substantially parallel with the light source axis, with each column including only LEDs configured to emit light in a limited range of the visible spectrum and having the same distinct dominant wavelength, and with each group of LEDs including LEDs configured to emit light in two or more dominant wavelengths. The two or more groups of LEDs are configured to cooperate with the faceted concave reflector to project a beam of light having a selectable, substantially uniform chromaticity.

The disclosed invention is embodied in an improved LED-based lighting fixture for projecting a beam of light having a substantially uniform intensity, rotationally, and a selectable, substantially uniform chromaticity. The lighting fixture includes (1) a concave reflector having circumferential facets, a focal region, an aperture, and a central opening; and (2) a light source assembly including two or more groups of LEDs mounted at the forward end of an elongated, thermally conductive support. The light source assembly is mounted relative to the reflector with the elongated support's longitudinal axis aligned with the reflector's longitudinal axis and with the groups of LEDs located at or near the reflector's focal region. Each of the two or more groups of LEDs includes a plurality of LEDs arranged in a specific pattern such that they cooperate with the faceted concave reflector to project a beam of light having a selectable, substantially uniform chromaticity.

A drawing tool is provided for assisting artists in transcribing images onto a blank medium. The device is a drawing frame of geometrical shape and has a plurality of notches disposed along the outer perimeter length. These notches are channels cut out of the edge, forming protruding segments between any two notches. Protruding segments are used as anchor sites for a series of elastic threads. A portion of the threads is wound around protruding segments disposed on opposing dies of the frame body, thereby stretching the elastic thread across the front surface of the frame body. A first grouping of the threads is secured in parallel lateral alignment, while a second group is secured in a parallel longitudinal alignment. This configuration presents a grid pattern that can be laid over an image or blank piece of paper to serve as a guide for transcription.

An improved LED light source assembly is described, suitable for use as a retrofit for prior lighting fixtures of a kind including a concave reflector, an incandescent lamp positioned with its filament(s) at or near a focal region of the reflector, and a lens assembly for projecting light reflected by the reflector to a distant location, e.g., a theater stage. The improved LED light source assembly includes a compact arrangement of three or more LED assemblies, which are mounted at the forward end of an elongated heat pipe. The heat pipe's rearward end attaches to a heat sink mountable on the back side of the lighting fixture's concave reflector, and the heat pipe extends through a central hole in the reflector to position the LED assemblies at or near the concave reflector's focal region. The concave reflector reflects light emitted by the LED assemblies forward to the lighting fixture's lens assembly, which in turn projects a beam of light to a distant location. The LED light engine's configuration allows a significant proportion of the prior lighting fixture to continue to be utilized, leading to substantial cost saving and simplified installation.

The present invention provides an improved lamp, and lighting fixture incorporating such a lamp, wherein the lamp's envelope includes a special optical coating system configured to more effectively reflect infrared light back toward the lamp filament, thereby enhancing the lamp's luminous efficacy. Multiple embodiments are disclosed, including coating systems deposited on one or both surfaces of the lamp envelope and including coating systems incorporating either a dielectric coating alone or specific combinations of a dielectric coating and a transparent conductive coating.

An improved incandescent lamp and incandescent lighting system are disclosed, for projecting a beam of light with substantially improved energy efficiency. The incandescent lamp includes a pair of reflective ceramic filament supports for supporting one or more filaments in prescribed position(s) within an envelope while reflecting back substantially all visible and infrared light for incorporation into the projected beam or for absorption by the filament(s). The incandescent lighting system includes a special infrared-reflective shroud concentrically encircling the incandescent lamp, for reflecting infrared light back toward the lamp filament(s) while transmitting visible light to a concave reflector for incorporation into the projected beam. The infrared-reflective coating is deposited onto the shroud's inner surface, and it includes a dielectric coating and an underlying transparent conductive coating. The lamp and the shroud are separately mounted relative to the concave reflector and are configured such that the lamp is removable without requiring removal of the shroud.

An improved incandescent lamp and incandescent lighting system are disclosed, for projecting a beam of light with substantially improved energy efficiency. A method is disclosed for controlling a lighting fixture of a kind having individually colored light sources, e.g., LEDs, that emit light having a distinct luminous flux spectrum that varies in its initial spectral composition, that varies with temperature, and that degrades over time. The method controls such fixture so that it projects light having a predetermined desired flux spectrum despite variations in initial spectral characteristics, despite variations in temperature, and despite flux degradations over time.

Method for controlling the luminous flux spectrum of a lighting fixture

An improved lighting apparatus, suitable for use as part of a lighting fixture, is disclosed, having a plurality of groups of distinct light-emitting devices, e.g., light-emitting diodes, that can be controlled to produce a beam of light having a wide variety of complex luminous flux spectra, including, but not limited, to spectra that closely emulate that of any one of a number of conventional light sources, with or without a conventional chemical dye filter. Each group of light-emitting devices is configured to emit light having a distinct luminous flux spectrum. A controller supplies selected amounts of electrical power to two or more groups of the plurality of groups of light-emitting devices, such that the groups cooperate to produce a composite beam of light having a selected luminous flux spectrum. The spectrum can be controlled to have a normalized mean deviation across the visible spectrum, relative to that of a beam of light to be emulated, of less than about 30%. This a marked improvement over all known lighting fixtures of the kind including multiple groups of distinct light sources. The groups of light-emitting devices are configured to include independently selected quantities of devices. Further, the groups of light-emitting devices are configured to each have a spectral half-width of less than about 40 nanometers (nm) and to have a peak flux wavelength that is spaced less than about 50 nm from that of an adjacent group.

Lighting apparatus for producing a beam of light having a controlled luminous flux spectrum

An improved plug-in power module for providing a controlled amount of electrical power to one or more remote lighting fixtures or other load is disclosed, the module being configured to sense a ground fault or other current imbalance at the load and, in response, both to trigger the module's circuit breaker to open and to report the occurrence of such a ground fault to a central location. The power module achieves these important functions without adding unduly to the module's complexity or size.

An improved lighting fixture for projecting a high-intensity beam of light that is imaged at a distant location, with reduced manufacturing cost and with reduced weight, but greater efficiency. Various structures are disclosed for eliminating infrared light from the projected beam, whereby the fixture's lens can advantageously be formed of a suitable plastic material and be configured as an aspheric fresnel lens or a stepped aspheric lens.

Lighting fixture for theater, television and architectural applications

An improved lighting fixture is disclosed for imaging a high-intensity beam of light at a distant location. A specially-faceted near-elliptical reflector cooperates with a gate aperture and a single aspheric lens to produce a beam that incorporates a very high proportion of emitted visible light, while the reflector has a dichroic coating that reflects only a low proportion of infrared light. The projected beam thereby has a relatively low energy density, such that the front portion of the fixture can be reduced substantially in size and weight. The gate is selectively rotatable relative to the fixture's rear housing.

Lighting fixture

A plug-in dimmer module for providing controlled power to one or more lighting fixtures or groups of fixtures. The dimmer module includes a housing with one or more circuit breakers located at one end, a power device with one or more dimmer circuits located at an opposite end, and one or more toroidal chokes located in a middle section. The power device includes built-in contacts for output power to the lighting fixture(s) and for control and sensor signals, and the dimmer module is adapted to plug directly into a slot in a rack, to engage the contacts. The components of the dimmer module are laid out efficiently within the housing, with minimal wastage of space and without the need for extraneous electrical conductors.
