A system to induce electrical muscle relaxation for airway management. The illustrative system includes a power control system targeted to relax muscles associated with an airway channel, and more particularly, to assist in human intubation by placement of an endotracheal tube within the trachea of a patient, mask ventilation, and/or resolution of laryngospasm. The relaxation of the muscles is achieved through external stimulation of nerves through the skin by an output electrical current pattern applied by the power control system. The illustrative system is configured to independently regulate an output current frequency and an output current amplitude of the output electrical current pattern.

Compositions comprising a cell expressing an AC133 cell surface antigen and an antibody, or antigen binding fragment thereof, that specifically binds to the antigen are provided. Expression of the antigen is highly tissue specific. It is detected on a subset of hematopoietic progenitor and stem cells derived from human bone marrow, fetal bone marrow and liver, cord blood and adult peripheral blood. The subset of cells recognized by AC133 is CD34and contains substantially all of the CFU-GM activity present in the CD34population. This highly specific distribution of AC133 makes it exceptionally useful as a reagent for isolating and characterizing human hematopoietic progenitor and stem cells. Cells selected for expression of AC133 antigen can be further purified by selection for other hematopoietic stem cell and progenitor cell markers.

The invention provides purified ACT-4 receptor polypeptides, antibodies against these polypeptides and nucleic acids encoding ACT-4 receptor polypeptides. Also provided are methods of diagnosis and treatment using the same. ACT-4 receptors are preferentially expressed on the surface of activated CD4T-cells. ACT-4 receptors are usually expressed at low levels on the surface of activated CD8cells, and are usually substantially absent on resting T-cells, and on monocytes and B-cells (resting or activated). An exemplary ACT-4 receptor, termed ACT-4-h-1, has a signal sequence, an extracellular domain comprising three disulfide-bonded intrachain loops, a transmembrane domain, and an intracellular domain.

The invention provides ligands and fragments thereof to a receptor on the surface of activated CD4.sup.+ T-cells. An exemplary ligand is designated ACT-4-L-h-1. Preferred fragments include purified extracellular domains of ligands. The invention also provides humanized and human antibodies to the ligand. The invention further provides methods of using the ligand and the antibodies in treatment of diseases and conditions of the immune system. The invention also provides methods of monitoring activated CD4.sup.+ T-cells using the ligands or fragments thereof.

L60 is a novel monoclonal antibody that will react with Leu 22. It is equally reactive in formalin, ZnSO.sub.4 or Bouin's fixed, paraffin-embedded tissues as well as in frozen tissues.
