The present disclosure provides pharmaceutical compositions comprising nucleic acids capable of targeting IGF-1R expression in M2 cells. The present disclosure also provides methods for the selective reduction of M2 cells by targeting expression of IGF-1R in these cells. The present disclosure further provides methods for treating cancer and enhancing therapeutic by targeting expression of IGF-1R in M2 cells in patients. The pharmaceutical composition of the present invention is effective when administered systemically to subjects in need thereof. The ease of administration of the pharmaceutical composition facilitates treatment and enhances patient compliance.

Methods and compositions for treating cancers and enhancing therapeutic immunity by selectively reducing immunomodulatory M2 monocytes

The present disclosure relates to compositions and methods for treating cancers using antisense (AS) nucleic acids directed against Insulin-like Growth Factor 1 Receptor (IGF-1R). The AS may be administered to the patients systemically, or may be used to produce an autologous cancer cell vaccine. In embodiments, the AS are provided in an implantable irradiated biodiffusion chamber comprising tumor cells and an effective amount of the AS. The chambers are irradiated and implanted in the abdomen of subjects and stimulate an immune response that attacks tumors distally. The compositions and methods disclosed herein may be used to treat many different kinds of cancer, for example glioblastoma.

A method of inducing resistance to or regression of tumor growth comprising placing tumor cells in culture in vitro or ex vivo supplemented with a pro-apoptotic agent for a period of time, transferring the tumor cells into a diffusion chamber, thereby producing a cell-containing chamber, inserting the chamber into a human for a therapeutically effective time, thereby inducing resistance to or regression of tumor growth.

Catheters for removing interstitial fluid from a cerebral edema that comprises an edema drainage section terminating in a proximal tip linked to a fluid transport section terminating in a distal tip are disclosed. The edema drainage section comprises an outer wall, an inner drainage tube and an intermediate solute compartment that comprises a solute. Methods of removing fluid from a cerebral edema of an individual are disclosed, and comprise the steps of inserting the edema drainage section of the catheter into communication with the fluid of the cerebral edema and inserting the fluid transport section of the catheter into a fluid receptacle or the individual's peritoneal cavity. The fluid is drawn into the edema drainage section and emerges from the distal tip of the fluid transport section of the catheter.
