A technique is provided that utilizes one or both of a control line actuation mechanism and a connector protection mechanism for use in a wellbore environment. Upon landing a lower well assembly and an upper well assembly at a desired wellbore location, control line connectors are engaged. The control line actuation mechanism and/or connector protection mechanism facilitate the formation of a desirable control line connection.

Downhole wet mate connection

A downhole contraction joint. The downhole contraction joint can include at least one anti-rotation assembly. The anti-rotation assembly can include a first tubular member at least partially disposed within a second tubular member. An axial slot can be formed through at least a portion of the first tubular member, and at least one key can be at least partially disposed within the second tubular member and the axial slot. The downhole contraction joint can also have at least one resetting assembly disposed at a first end of the anti-rotation assembly. The resetting assembly can include a c-ring secured to the second tubular member. The first tubular member can be secured to the lock ring, and the lock ring can be aligned with the c-ring. The downhole contraction joint can also include at least one control line assembly disposed about a portion of the anti-rotation assembly.

Re-settable and anti-rotational contraction joint with control lines

A technique is provided to facilitate connection of completion assemblies at a downhole location. A completion assembly comprises a control line conduit having a connector designed for coupling with a corresponding connector of a next adjacent completion assembly. A cover is selectively used to block entry of debris and other contaminants into the connector during deployment of the completion assembly downhole prior to engagement with the next adjacent completion of assembly.

System and method for forming downhole connections

A technique is provided in which a soft landing system is used for connecting upper and lower assemblies in a wellbore. The soft landing system cushions the engagement of an upper well assembly with a lower well assembly and facilitates the controlled engagement of control line connectors. The controlled engagement limits or avoids damage to the control line connectors in well completion operations performed in two or more stages.

Downhole connection system

A technique is provided to facilitate connection of well equipment assemblies at a downhole location. A first assembly comprises a control line having a connector designed for coupling with a corresponding connector of a next adjacent assembly. Additionally, a mechanism is provided to restrain movement of the next adjacent assembly prior to full engagement with the first assembly to enable performance of a desired preparation procedure.

A technique is provided in which a contraction joint is used to facilitate connection of well equipment assemblies at a downhole location. The contraction joint accommodates changes in system length during engagement and use or the well equipment assemblies in a wellbore. Additionally, the contraction joint provides a positive indication of joint position and enables resetting of the joint following initial contraction.
