Stochastic signal density modulation for optical transducer control

A method may include generating display driver signals that vary between only two levels and applying the display driver signals to opposing electrodes of a display segment within a display device. An intrinsic capacitance of the display device filters the display driver signals to generate different analog signal levels at the display segment of the display device. The method varies the pulse density of the display driver signals to select or de-select the display segment based on an average voltage magnitude across the display segment over a time period. The display segment is activated when the average voltage magnitude exceeds a threshold value.

An apparatus that may be used to sense capacitance, as well as other functions. The apparatus includes a comparator circuit with hysteresis, a capacitor, and a current driver. The comparator circuit with hysteresis includes a first input and an output. The capacitor is coupled to the first input of the comparator circuit with hysteresis. The current driver is coupled to the output of the comparator circuit with hysteresis and to the capacitor. The current driver reciprocally sources and sinks a drive current through a terminal of the capacitor to oscillate a voltage potential at the terminal of the capacitor between a low reference potential and a high reference potential. The current driver is responsive to the output of the comparator circuit with hysteresis.

An ECG signal detection device that includes a differential amplifier input circuit and a driven reference electrode lead is disclosed. More specifically, the ECG signal detection device includes a differential amplifier input circuit and three-electrode leads, two of which terminate at a common patient coupling device such as an electrode pad or a defibrillator paddle. The third electrode lead terminates at a second, separate patient coupling device. Two electrical cords that include the electrode leads extend between the patient coupling devices and the differential amplifier input circuit. One electrical cord includes the two-electrode leads that terminate at the common patient coupling device. One electrode lead and an associated electrode integrated into the common patient coupling device form one of the ECG signal inputs to the differential amplifier and the second electrode lead and an associated electrode also integrated into the common patient coupling device form a driven reference input to the differential amplifier. The other electrode cord incorporates the third electrode lead. The third electrode lead and an associated electrode integrated into the second, separate patient coupling device form the other ECG signal input to the differential amplifier.

ECG signal detection device

A circuit, method and microcontroller apparatus for performing an analog to digital conversion with continuously variable resolution is disclosed. The circuit includes a integrating modulator for converting an analog input signal, corresponding to an input voltage, to a digital signal at its output over an integrate time. The circuit also includes a counter with an enable input coupled to the integrating modulator output. The counter accumulates the number of cycles where the digital signal is positive during the sample period and provides a corresponding conversion result. Further, the circuit has a pulse width modulator; its output gates a clock to the counter enable input. The pulse width modulator is user programmable on-the-fly to set said integrate time and said sample period.
