Provided are a computer program product, system, and method for processing main cause errors and sympathetic errors in devices in a system. Error data for the devices in the system are analyzed to determine a main cause error for one of the devices that cause at least one sympathetic error in the system. A main cause event object for the determined main cause error and at least one sympathetic event object for the determined at least one sympathetic error resulting from the main cause error are generated. A determination is made from the at least one sympathetic event object of at least one sympathetic event action to perform. The determined at least one sympathetic event action is performed to recover from the at least one sympathetic error represented by the at least one sympathetic event object providing the at least one sympathetic event action.

Processing main cause errors and sympathetic errors in devices in a system

In one embodiment, pursuant to migrating the data from the first to the second storage medium, the data is allocated to the second storage medium while retaining an allocation of the data in the first storage medium. If the data is migrated from the second storage medium back to the first storage medium, the data is pointed to the allocation of the data in the first storage medium to alleviate data movement from the second storage medium to the first storage medium. If the allocation of the data in the first storage medium is determined to be needed for other data, the allocation of the data in the first storage medium is freed.

Optimization of data migration between storage mediums

In one embodiment of a computer-implemented system, comprising a plurality of computer entities and multiple resources, one of the computer entities may request a multi-resource lock to one of the multiple resources; the one resource determines whether a resource lock is available at the one resource and, if so, the one resource communicates with all peer resources to determine whether a resource lock is available; if the peer resources indicate a resource lock is available, lock all of the resources to the requesting computer entity, and the one resource communicates the lock of the resources to the requesting computer entity; and if any the resource indicates contention for the multi-resource lock, the one resource communicates the contention to the requesting computer entity, and the requesting computer entity backs off the multi-resource lock request and, after a random time interval, repeats the request.

Computer-implemented multi-resource shared lock

A method to change the IP address of a server from a remote operator station, where that server comprises an HTTP server having a first IP address, and where that server is capable of communicating with one or more remote operator stations. One of those remote operator stations submits to the server, using the first IP address, an IP address change request. That IP address change request includes discontinuing use of the first IP address and commencing use of a second IP address. After receipt of the IP address change request, the server generates an HTML page comprising an embedded applet, where that applet is capable of monitoring the TCP/IP connection between the remote operator station and the server. The server provides that HTML page/applet to the remote operator station. Thereafter, the remote operator station continuously displays the status of the IP address change request using the provided applet. After the IP address change request is completed, the remote operator station communicates with the server using the second IP address.

Apparatus and method to remotely change IP address of server

A user interface facilitates copying data between storage resources, such as servers. A user selects a source storage resource and a target storage resource. Available adapters are displayed through which a path can be established between the selected source and target storage resources. The user selects at least one of the available adapters to configure the path to copy data from the selected source storage resource to the selected target storage resource. The list of available adapters is dynamically updated so that only currently available adapters are displayed. The displayed adapters may be further limited to those that are compatible with a certain path type selected by the user, such as adapters used for a unidirectional or a bi-directional path.
