Two embodiments of an assembly for directing a fluid, such as a combination of air and a liquid, toward a vehicle headlamp for cleaning the headlamp surface. A support member is adapted at a first end to be connected to a vehicle body adjacent a headlamp and extends to a forward end which supports a nozzle guide or cage member. The assembly includes an elbow member having a fluid inlet and support flanges for receiving retaining fasteners. A supply tube is connected to the inlet of the elbow. The elbow member has an outlet which extends transversely of the inlet and a flailing flexible tube is connected to the outlet and has a loop integral therewith extending about the elbow member for retaining the flailing tube thereon. The cage member has a terminal end defining an opening and is of generally funnel shape for restricting the flailing movement of the emitting end of the flailing tube. In the second embodiment a cover is disposed over the cage member. The cage members have walls defining a throat surrounding the flailing tube with generally parallel walls below the throat and diverging walls above the throat. The diverging walls are generally V-shaped in cross section adjacent the opening of the cage member and the diverging walls are interconnected by generally parallel connecting walls. Such a cage member configuration results in very effective flailing movement of the flailing tube.

Headlamp cleaning assembly

A headlamp cleaning assembly of the type for cleaning vehicle headlamps and including first and second nozzles for jetting an air/liquid mixture against a headlight surface. A regulator means is included for mixing air and liquid and for sequentially supplying the resultant air/liquid mixture to the first nozzle for a first period of time and then to the second nozzle for a second period of time to complete one cycle. The regulator includes a piston slidably disposed in a cavity to define an air/liquid mixing chamber which is opposed by a liquid charging chamber. The piston also defines an air actuation chamber which, when supplied air, moves the piston from a start position to a charged position to charge by filling the charging chamber with liquid. A stem is connected to and extends upwardly from the piston and is slidably disposed in a stem chamber for actuating an air valve which, in turn, allows pressurized air to flow into the stem chamber. A selector valve is in fluid communication with the stem chamber for selectively controlling the flow of the air/liquid mixture between the first and second nozzles. A porting valve is in fluid communication with the stem chamber through an accumulator chamber and is responsive to air pressure in the stem chamber for moving to an open position to allow air pressure to flow to the mixing chamber to drive the piston against the liquid charged chamber so that liquid will flow through a check valve and a timing and atomizing nozzle into the mixing chamber. Also included is a manually actuated control valve which is actuatable to allow air pressure to flow to the air actuating chamber to initiate a cycle.

An assembly for directing a fluid, such as a combination of air and a liquid, toward a vehicle headlamp for cleaning the headlamp surface. A box-like support member is adapted at a first end to be connected to a vehicle body adjacent a headlamp and extends to a distal end to be positioned forwardly of the headlamp. The distal end of the box member includes a front wall with an aperture therein to define retaining flanges. An elbow member having a fluid inlet is disposed within the box member and has support flanges which overlap and engage the retaining flanges of the box-like member. A supply tube is connected to the inlet of the elbow and a coil spring is disposed about the supply tube and engaging the elbow member urging the elbow member forwardly. The elbow member has an outlet which extends upwardly and rearwardly from the inlet and a flailing flexible tube is connected to the outlet and has a loop integral therewith extending about the bottom of the elbow member for retaining the flailing tube thereon. A cover member is disposed about the elbow and the flailing tube and a pair of fasteners extend through the cover member to engage a clip disposed about the support flanges of the elbow member whereby the cover is connected to the elbow member and may move therewith by compressing the coil spring. The cover member has a front face which extends upwardly and rearwardly in the direction of a headlamp and the upper end of the cover member defines an opening of generally funnel shape for restricting the flailing movement of the emitting end of the flailing tube. Any one of various adapter plates having one of various configurations may be disposed between the box member and a vehicle body for accommodating the contour of a particular vehicle body to position the assembly so that the flailing tube will be aimed at an adjacent headlamp.
