A regeneration disable control system () of a vehicle having a power take off device () that is run off a motor () which is powered by at least one battery (), and an engine () for recharging the at least one battery and for regenerating a diesel particulate filter (), includes a hybrid controller (). The hybrid controller () sends a signal to an engine controller () to indicate whether hybrid-PTO mode is enabled. If the hybrid-PTO mode is enabled, the engine controller () determines whether regeneration of the diesel particulate filter () is required. If regeneration is required, the engine controller () sends a signal to a regeneration inhibitor () to disable the engine () from initiating a regeneration event.

System for disabling diesel particulate filter regeneration during electric operation

The method for regeneration of a diesel particulate filter of a vehicle equipped with a hybrid engine, wherein the temperature of the exhaust exiting the diesel engine is increased above a predetermined level by increasing load thereon, through optimization of interaction between the diesel particulate filter aftertreatment system and the hybrid engine control through messaging via a communication bus is disclosed. The load on the engine may be increased with or without the assistance of the electric motor/generator of the hybrid engine, and will not affect required acceleration/deceleration of the vehicle.

Method for diesel particulate filter regeneration in a vehicle equipped with a hybrid engine background of the invention

A motor vehicle () has a diesel engine () and one or more sources () providing data relevant to operations of the vehicle that are external to the engine but potentially influential on fueling of the engine. An engine control system () processes data according to an all-speed governing strategy for controlling engine fueling to develop all-speed governed fueling data (MFGOV) that sets engine fueling when a data input to the engine control system from the one or more sources discloses no need to influence engine fueling. When the data input from such one or more sources discloses a need to influence engine fueling, that data input causes engine fueling to be set by a strategy other than the all-speed governing strategy, a torque speed control strategy () in particular.

An engine ( ) has a hydraulic system ( ) that serves both fuel injectors ( ) and hydraulic actuators ( ) of an engine brake that brakes the engine by controlling exhaust gas flow during engine braking. Pressure of the hydraulic fluid is set by an injection control strategy when a brake control pressure strategy is inactive. When the brake control pressure strategy is active, braking of the engine occurs when hydraulic fluid is delivered to the actuators. The brake control pressure strategy signals pressure of the hydraulic fluid supplied to the one or more actuators that is in excess of a pressure determined by a brake control pressure strategy. The brake control pressure strategy then limits pressure of the hydraulic fluid.

The exhaust gas recirculation modifier data and basic exhaust gas recirculation data are multiplied ( ) to develop modified exhaust gas recirculation data, and exhaust gas is recirculated in accordance with the modified exhaust gas recirculation data. Using engine speed as a determinant of the extent to which the basic EGR rate should be modified during a fueling transient enables better control over certain exhaust emissions over certain speed ranges.

A method of operating a retarder control system for a drivetrain retarder such as an engine compression brake of a heavy-duty truck vehicle is disclosed. The method of operation includes three novel subsets each of which controls the operational state and the resistance level at which the drivetrain retarder is operated dependent at least partially upon one or more factors including speeds of one or more drivetrain components, vehicle speed, rotational speed of one or more undriven wheels, position of a brake control member, elapsed time of activation of a brake control member and/or elapsed time from a change in a selected resistance level at which the retarder control system is commanded to effect operation of the drivetrain retarder.

A method of boot strap starting a diesel having a plurality of cylinders comprises the steps of initiating cranking the diesel and responsive to cranking forcing exhaust valves for all cylinders open during compression strokes. Thereafter, responsive to the engine rotational speed signal exceeding a first threshold, an exhaust valve for one cylinder is allowed to open and close in synchronous with movement of a piston in the cylinder. Further responsive to engine rotational speed exceeding a second threshold higher than the first threshold, cranking is discontinued and the remaining exhaust valves are allowed to open and close in synchronous with movements of pistons in their respective cylinders.
