A machine for converting a sheet stock material into a dunnage product includes a conversion assembly for converting sheet stock material into a dunnage product as the sheet stock material travels along a path from an upstream end of the conversion assembly to a downstream end of the conversion assembly. The machine further includes a transversely extending guide over which the stock material passes for guided entry into the upstream end of the conversion assembly. The guide is rotatable such that the transverse extent of the guide can be moved between a plurality of relatively rotated orientations to guide the sheet stock material from different sides of the conversion assembly.

Void-fill dunnage conversion machine, stock material support, and method

A dunnage conversion machine () converts a sheet stock material into a dunnage product that is relatively thicker and less dense than the stock material, but is relatively thin and sufficiently flexible to function as a protective wrap. The conversion machine includes a feed mechanism () that advances a sheet stock material therethrough and a connecting mechanism () downstream of the feed mechanism. The connecting mechanism retards the passage of the sheet stock material therethrough by feeding the stock material therethrough at a slower rate than the feed mechanism feeds the stock material to the connecting mechanism. This causes the stock material to randomly crumple in a longitudinal space between the feed mechanism and the connecting mechanism. The connecting mechanism connects multiple overlapping layers of sheet stock material together as they pass therethrough, including connecting at least one crumpled sheet to one side of one other sheet.

Dunnage conversion machine and method

A method of converting a supply of sheet stock into a relatively less dense dunnage product, including the following steps of (i) providing a stack of fan-folded sheet material having fold lines parallel to a width dimension; and (ii) drawing sheet stock material from the stack in a direction parallel to the width dimension.

Reduced footprint dunnage conversion system and method

A system () for automatically dispensing a strip of dunnage to a container () includes a dispenser () having an outlet () from which the dispenser can feed a length of a strip of dunnage lengthwise, a container support () for supporting a container () thereon, and a pusher device () at the outlet () for pushing, more particularly propelling, a trailing end of the strip of dunnage from the outlet () toward the container support (). The outlet () is aligned with the container support (). Thus the outlet () is positioned relative to a container () such that the strip will curl or fold back and forth upon itself within the confines of the container () as it is being fed from the outlet (). A container closer (and) automatically closes the flaps (and) of the container ().

Automated dunnage filling system and method

A novel dunnage-creating machine and methodology characterized by various features including, inter alia, a modular construction, easier access to interior components, and a low cost cutting assembly. The machine comprises front and rear units having separate housings. The housing of the rear unit includes an outer shell having a converging chute surrounding a shaping member over which sheet-like stock material is drawn to form the stock material into a three-dimensional shape. The front unit includes in the housing thereof a feed mechanism for drawing the stock material over the shaping member and stitching the shaped material to form a strip of dunnage product. The front unit also includes a manual cutting mechanism for cutting the strip to form cut pieces, which manual cutting mechanism includes a readily replaceable blade assembly.

Cushioning conversion machine and method

A cushioning conversion machine for converting a sheet stock material into a cushioning product. The cushioning conversion machine includes a forming assembly which forms the stock material into a three- dimensional strip and a feed assembly which feeds the stock material through the forming assembly. The forming assembly includes a chute and a forming member at least partially positioned within the chute. The forming member is attached to the chute independently of the machine's frame whereby the chute and the forming member may be assembled as a subassembly and then this subassembly mounted to the machine's frame.

A cushioning conversion machine and method for converting stock material into a cushioning product, characterized by a manual feed mechanism or assembly. The machine includes a shaping member over which the stock material is drawn to form the stock material into a three-dimensional shape and the manual feed mechanism draws the stock material over the shaping member. The manual feed mechanism may include a rotatable member for engaging and advancing the stock material, and an operator member mounted for reciprocating movement and operatively connected to the rotatable member.

The machine includes a forming assembly which forms the sheet-like stock material into a three-dimensional strip of dunnage; a stock supply assembly which supplies the stock material to the forming assembly; a feed assembly which feeds the stock material through the forming assembly; and a cutting assembly which cuts the strip of dunnage into sections of a desired length. The forming assembly includes a chute having an inlet end which is outwardly flared in a trumpet-like fashion to facilitate passage of the sheet-like stock material into the chute.

The machine's housing at least partially encloses the forming assembly, the feed assembly, and the cutting assembly. The machine further comprises a stand including a support to which the housing is mounted and a base extending from the support to which the stock supply assembly is mounted.
