A detection system includes a plurality of sensors including an entry sensor having a field of view oriented to detect object entry with respect to an entry portion of an occupancy volume, and an exit sensor having a field of view oriented to detect object exit with respect to an exit portion of the occupancy volume, the exit portion different than the entry portion. The detection system further includes at least one approach sensor having a field of view oriented to detect object approach relative to the entry portion of the occupancy volume, and at least one retreat sensor having a field of view oriented to detect object retreat relative to the exit portion of the occupancy volume.

System and method for occupancy detection

A method and apparatus for generating accurate estimates of a radar target's azimuth and elevation angles for a phased-phased array rotating radar. Scan modulated coherently integrated (SMCI) monopulse curves are generated from a measured one-way transmit antenna pattern and three receive antenna patterns. The SMCI monopulse curves are calculated in advance for the expected beam steers. To utilize the SMCI monopulse curves, two-way Sum, Delta-Azimuth and Delta-Elevation target returns are coherently integrated, the target's monopulse ratios calculated, and the SMCI monopulse curves or polynomials used to calculate the target's U-offset and V-offset sine-space angles, which are added to the radar's beam steer to get an improved estimate of the target's sine-space angular position denoted as Uand V. A coordinate system transformation transforms Uand Vto azimuth and elevation angles in a non-rotating coordinate system.

Method of generating accurate estimates of azimuth and elevation angles of a target for a phased&#x2014;phased array rotating radar

A mechanism for combining signals of multiple radars to achieve increased range, radar sensitivity and angle accuracy is provided. A first signal beam is radiated from an antenna of a first radar in the direction of a target. A second signal beam is radiated from an antenna of a second radar in the direction of the same target. The echo signals from the first signal beam and the second signal beam are received at both radars. The echo signals received at the first radar are processed to produce first radar processed echo signals and the echoes signals received at the second radar are processed to produce second radar processed echo signals. The first and second radar processed echo signals are combined to form an aggregate value.

Multiple radar combining for increased range, radar sensitivity and angle accuracy

An array antenna includes two different types of super elements each having transmit/receive (TR) modules coupled thereto. The TR modules are widely spaced and the super elements are arranged such that by selectively activating certain ones of the super elements the antenna provides a dual field of view in elevation. A Narrow Field of View (NFOV) is achieved by activating all super elements in the antenna aperture. A Wide Field of View (WFOV) utilizes only super elements which are arranged in a center portion of the antenna aperture.

A method for guiding a missile to a target. The method includes the step of providing a surface-based radar system having an electronically beam steerable antenna system adapted for continuous mechanical rotation about an axis. During a pre-terminal, semi-active missile homing guidance phase, the beam produced by the antenna system is electronically rotated by the antenna system in a direction counter to the direction of the mechanical rotation of the antenna system to thereby increase radar system illumination time on the target. Further, during the increased illumination time, the beamwidth of the surface-based radar system beam is increased. During, a subsequent terminal, active homing missile guidance phase, guiding the missile to the target with the pre-terminal, semi-active missile homing guidance phase using the surface-based radar system and establishing an angular orientation for a missile-borne antenna system at the commencement of the terminal, active missile homing guidance system phase.

A radar system, including a pulse radar capable of emitting interrogating pulses and high rate antiradition missile decoys, is shown to comprise a plurality of decoys adapted to emit pulses having duty factors less than the duty factor of the interrogating pulses, but when activated successively form a changing composite covering pulse for overlapping an emitted interrogating pulse, thereby preventing an anti-radiation missile from destroying the radar system.

A technique using sector antennas on a plurality of decoy transmitters such hat each antenna only has to cover a portion of the required azimuth coverage but the total azimuth is covered at all times by all the decoy transmitters. Switching between sectors of the various decoy transmitters is done to provide pseudo-blinking decoy field.

A technique is described whereby a continuous wave radar transmitting a carrier with wide band modulation may be arranged adaptively to null large clutter returns from clutter at any range or azimuth.

Continuous wave radar

A method of operating a continuous wave radar to derive range information as well as Doppler information is described. The transmitted signal is frequency modulated at a low modulation frequency and peak deviation so that range ambiguities are effectively avoided and echo signals may be processed at a relatively low intermediate frequency, thereby allowing echo signals from clutter to be more effectively rejected and echo signals from a moving target to be correlated.
