A system for forming a fluid connection includes a first connector and a second connector. Both connectors include a tubular body having a membrane mounted on a distal end thereof. A support member facilitates the coupling of the connectors together so that the membranes are abutted together. Radiant energy is applied to the abutted membranes so as to first sterilize the membranes and then melt the membranes so that a passage is formed therethrough.

Sterile connector systems

A flexible bag having expansible and collapsible cells can be used in a liquid dispenser. A rigid manifold, and in one instance a rigid frame is provided in the bag to keep passages open in use and to isolate one of the cells from the remaining cells. The manifold is capable of altering the volume of one of the cells so that the same bag can be used in different applications.

Flexible bag for fluent material dispenser

A liquid dispenser uses a flexible bag having expansible and collapsible cells. A rigid manifold, and in one instance a rigid frame is provided in the bag to keep passages open in use and to isolate one of the cells from the remaining cells. The dispenser employs an efficient and quiet air pressure operating system. In one application, a concentrated drink mix may be held in a reservoir and diluted within other cells in the bag for dispensing to a cup or the like. A valve system allows for the particulates in the liquid without compromising the function of the valve.

Multilayer gas-permeable container for the culture of adherent and non-adherent cells

A resealable access site (10) is provided for allowing a cannula (18) multiple accesses to an internal cavity (35) defined by a container (12). The access site (10) includes a first conduit (28) defining a passageway (29) forming a fluid path to the cavity within the container. Sealingly attached to the conduit (28) is a housing (26) with a lower portion (26a) and a lower flange (68) attached to a lower end of the lower portion and extending radially inward from the lower portion. A septum (24) is disposed and compressed within the lower portion, with the septum defining an opening (46) extending upward through at least a portion of the septum. The opening (46) is sized for insertion of the cannula (18) through the septum (24) with the septum sealing about the exterior of the cannula. The septum (24) is maintained in the housing by the support provided by the opposing flange (68) and conduit (28).

A multiple layer structure comprising a skin layer, a barrier layer, a radio frequency susceptible layer having a first polyolefin in an amount within a range of 30-60% by weight, a second polyolefin in an amount within the range of 25-50% by weight, a radio frequency susceptible polymer in an amount within the range of 3-40% by weight, a styrene and hydrocarbon block copolymer in an amount within the range of 5-40% by weight of the sealant layer.

A multi-layer, flexible, gas-permeable film (10) suitable for forming a cell culture container (20), the film (10) comprising a first layer (12) composed of a polystyrene having a thickness within the range of 0.0001 inches to about 0.0010 inches and, a second layer (14) adhered to the first layer (12) composed of a polymer material having a thickness within the range of 0.004 inches to about 0.025 inches.

An aseptic/sterile fluid connection between two containers is formed by radio frequency sealing together portions of transfer regions of two containers. Each transfer region has a layer of a relatively high melt temperature material such as a rubber or elastomer positioned between two outer container walls made of a flexible thermoplastic, for example polyvinyl chloride. The transfer regions are placed in registry, and the radio frequency welding fuses together portions of adjacent container outer walls and forms a fluid opening therethrough.

Sterile/aseptic connector

A blood component separating device comprises a centrifuge bowl adapted for rotation about its axis in a centrifuge. The bowl defines an outer circumferential wall plus an inner circumferential wall, spaced from the outer wall, to define a circumferential slot adapted for receiving blood components. Access tubing is adapted for communication with the slot. Preferably, an elongated, flexible, collapsible inner liner is provided in the slot. Individual access tubing also may communicate with an elongated container interior between the ends of the elongated, collapsible container. Furthermore, a portion of the slot may define the shape of an outwardly extending spiral, to provide an increasing gravitational field upon fluids therein as the fluid moves along the slot.

A blood component separating device comprises a centrifuge bowl adapted for rotation about its axis in a centrifuge. The bowl defines an outer arcuate wall plus an inner circumferential wall, spaced from the outer wall, to define a arcuate slot adapted for receiving blood components. Access tubing is adapted for communication with the slot. Preferably, an elongated, flexible, collapsible inner liner is provided in the slot. Individual access tubing also may communicate with an elongated container interior between the ends of the elongated, collapsible container. Furthermore, a portion of the slot may define the shape of an outwardly extending spiral, to provide an increasing gravitational field upon fluids therein as the fluid moves along the slot.

The present invention provides a large volume flexible container capable of containing a fluid to be maintained under sterile conditions. The container comprises an inner liner constructed from a polyolefin that defines an interior of the container and an outer liner constructed from a three-layer laminate. The laminate includes an inner layer constructed from a polyolefin that will, upon the application of sufficient energy, bond to the polyolefin of the inner liner, a middle layer constructed from a barrier material, and an outer layer; the inner liner and outer liner being sealed together along edges of the container. At least one tube member, for accessing the container, extends from a face of the container, and includes an end that is secured to the container, a length of flexible tubing for defining a channel through which fluid can flow, and a connector at a second end. A structure for housing the container is also provided.

An adherent cell culture flask is provided. The flask includes a body constructed from a first side wall and a second side wall, each side wall having an interior surface and an exterior surface. The first and second side walls are sealed together to define a chamber. The first side wall is constructed from flexible film and includes on its interior surface a charged surface for facilitating the attachment of cells thereto. The second side wall is constructed from flexible film and includes a non-smooth interior surface for preventing the first side wall interior surface from sticking to the second side wall interior surface.
