A method and system for providing a user of a wireless communication device (WCD) with vending service. The WCD may present the user with data indicating items available for purchase from a vendor. The WCD may then receive the user's directive to order an item from the vendor. In response, the WCD may obtain data stored at a transponder in proximity to the WCD that indicates a location of the WCD. In one example, the transponder may be at a fixed location, such as by being affixed to a fixed object at a venue (e.g., a stadium seat), in which case the stored data may indicate the fixed location. The WCD may then send an order for the item and the obtained data to the vendor. In turn, the vendor may use the data to determine a location of the WCD and then deliver the item to the determined location.

Causes of the failure are determined, and device attributes are received. These causes and attributes are then used to determine an alternative authentication process. Systems and methods are disclosed describing the transmission of multimedia data to a mobile device. A system describing some of the disclosed embodiments comprises a mobile digital television transmitter transmitting a primary data stream, a transceiver transmitting a secondary data stream, and a mobile device. In some embodiments the mobile device comprises a mobile display, a mobile transceiver, and a mobile processor and receives at least the primary data stream and the secondary data. The mobile device displays data from either the primary data stream or the secondary data stream, and transmits a mobile data stream to the transceiver. The mobile data stream may comprise information relating to the status of both the primary data stream and the secondary data stream. This system may also include a server in communication with the transceiver, wherein the server is capable of determining the signal conditions of the mobile device based upon the mobile data stream and alter the secondary data stream based upon the mobile data stream.

Authentication parameters that may be used by the device to complete the authentication process are then identified. To facilitate improved delivery of messages via multiple messaging servers, a data abstraction layer is provided. When a first messaging server receives a message destined to a particular party served by a second messaging server, the first messaging server queries the data abstraction layer, and the data abstraction layer then queries potentially multiple databases to obtain information usable to facilitate message delivery, including presence data, preference data, and capabilities data, and provides the information to the first messaging server. The first messaging server may use the presence data to decide whether to send the message, and may use the preference data to decide which device should receive the message. When the first messaging server sends the message to the second messaging server, the first messaging server may provide the second messaging server with the capabilities data to facilitate tailoring of the message content for the destination device.

A presence enabled media host device is provided for accessing presence information associated with a number of communication endpoints and requesting the initiation of a communication session with at least one of the communication endpoints. The presence enabled media host device may access presence information, which includes information relating to the availability of a number of first communication endpoints. The presence enabled media host device may also receive a command requesting establishment of a communication session between at least one of the first communication endpoints and one or more second communication endpoints. The presence enabled media host device may then communicate a request for the communication session to a proxy server.

Mobile device playback and control of media content stored on a personal media host device is provided. The mobile device may communicate a request for media content to a network server, which may determine whether the mobile device is authorized to access the requested media content. If it is determined that the mobile device is authorized, the network server may access the media content from the host device. The network server may then initiate a media session with the mobile device, wherein the media content is streamed to the mobile device.

A method, system, and computer-readable media are provided for authorizing a device to authenticate onto a network from a base station. The method includes receiving a first identifier of a device and receiving a second identifier of a base station. Furthermore, the method includes determining if the device is authorized to authenticate onto the network from the base station based on an evaluation of the first and second identifiers. Additionally, the method includes authorizing the device to authenticate onto the network when it is determined that the device is authorized to receive service at the base station.

A method and system for securely conveying patient medical information to a medical service person is described. The conveyance may be conditional upon authentication of a unique code associated with a patient apparatus and a unique code associated with a medical service person apparatus. The patient medical information may be stored in a network server accessible by a medical information provider and conveyed in encrypted form to a medical service person apparatus via a patient apparatus. The medical information may be conveyed to the patient apparatus via a cellular communication and then conveyed to the medical service person's apparatus via a short-range direct wireless connection such as BLUETOOTH or Wi-Fi. Once present on the medical service person's apparatus, the medical information may decrypted and displayed.
