The present disclosure relates to systems, non-transitory computer-readable media, and methods that provide and apply dynamic image filters to modify digital images over time to simulate a dynamical system. Such dynamic image filters can modify a digital image to progress through different frames depicting visual effects mimicking natural and/or artificial qualities of a fluid, gas, chemical, cloud formation, fractal, or various physical matters or phenomena according to a dynamic-simulation function. Upon detecting a selection of a dynamic image filter, the disclosed systems can identify a dynamic-simulation function corresponding to the dynamical system. Based on selecting a portion of the (or entire) digital image at which to apply the dynamic image filter, the disclosed systems incrementally modify the digital image across time steps to simulate the dynamical system according to the dynamic-simulation function.

Inter-context coordination to facilitate synchronized presentation of image content is described. In example embodiments, an application includes multiple execution contexts that coordinate handling user interaction with a coordination policy established using an inter-context communication mechanism. The application produces first and second execution contexts that are responsible for user interaction with first and second image content, respectively. Generally, the second execution context provides a stipulation for the coordination policy to indicate which execution context is to handle a response to a given user input event. With an event routing policy, an event routing rule informs the first execution context if a user input event should be routed to the second execution context. With a pixel authorization policy, a pixel authorization grant informs the first execution context of an authorization to manipulate pixels of the second image content in response to a user input event affecting pixels of the first image content.

Inter-context coordination to facilitate synchronized presentation of image content

One or more aspects of the subject matter described in this disclosure include identifying a first application component received by a running application, identifying a first automatically connectable connection for the first application component, selecting a second automatically connectable connection for a second application component, the second application component residing in the running application, and automatically connecting the first connection with the second connection so that information can be exchanged between the first application component and the second application component by way of the first connection and the second connection while the first application is running.

Presentation of cross-platform multimedia content may be controlled by a media player. Cross-platform content may include a two-dimensional (2D) graphics component, a three-dimensional (3D) graphics component, and a video component. Each component may be rendered as a separate layer, and each component may be rendered independently from one another. The multimedia player may synchronize the separate renderings for presentation. In one embodiment, the rendering of at least one of the separate layers may be performed by a hardware resource separate from the hardware resource executing the multimedia player. Each separate layer may be composited for display. In one embodiment, the compositing may be performed by a hardware resource separate from the hardware resource executing the multimedia player.

Methods, systems, and apparatus, including computer program products, for storing an application fragment. In one aspect, a method includes presenting a component in a donor application window corresponding to a donor application, wherein the donor application is executing in a computing system; receiving input selecting the component in the donor application window for insertion into a file system associated with the computing system; generating an application fragment corresponding to the component; and storing the application fragment in the file system. Further, the method can include inserting the application fragment into a recipient application window associated with a recipient application and activating functionality of the recipient application based on the application fragment. Additionally, the application fragment can be activated in the file system and an application including at least a component based on the application fragment can be generated in response to the activating.
