Examples relate to a computer implemented method comprising, based on a vulnerable nozzle map indicating one or more operational nozzles of a printhead identified as meeting a failure likelihood criterion, during a print job, and between successive print passes of the printhead, checking operation of the one or more operational nozzles indicated on the vulnerable nozzle map.

In an example, a method includes ejecting a print agent drop from a printhead, and determining an indication of velocity of the print agent drop. A weight parameter of the print agent drop may be determined from the indication of velocity.

A printer includes a print head to print by ejecting drops of a printing fluid;, a memory to store a correction measure, the correction measure to modify printing a pattern to compensate for decel, and a processor. The processor analyzes print data for a pattern that, when printed using the print head, triggers decel, controls the print head to eject drops of the printing fluid in accordance with the print data, when the analysis indicates that the pattern to be printed triggers decel, applies the correction measure upon printing the pattern, and, when the analysis indicates that the pattern to be printed does not trigger decel, does not apply the correction measure upon printing the pattern.

In some examples, a method includes capturing an image of a light projection across a print substrate and a background surface beside the background surface. The method may also include identifying a break point in the image where a gap in the light projection occurs and determining a thickness of the print substrate, an edge location of the print substrate, or both, using the break point in the image.

In one example in accordance with the present disclosure a device to detect media being wound around a wheel is described. The device includes a reel that collects the media and a movable arm pivotally coupled to the reel to provide tension to the media being wound around the reel. The device also includes a controller that detects media is being wound around the reel by 1) determining an angular position of the movable arm and 2) calculating, based on the angular position of the movable arm, when an output of a motor that rotates the reel is non-zero.

In one example, a printer having a removably-installable platen. The platen has a platen type. A surface of the platen has a feature that is indicative of the platen type. The printer includes a single platen-type-discriminating sensor. The sensor detects a distinguishing characteristic of the feature. A controller determines the platen type from the distinguishing characteristic.

An example method for determining an amount of a translucent printing fluid in accordance with the present disclosure is provided. The example method comprises printing a plurality of test patterns with different proportions of colored and translucent printing fluids. The plurality of test patterns comprise a first area and a second area contiguous with the first area, wherein a color of the second area is different from a color of the first area. Migration characteristics of the plurality of test patterns are analyzed to determine an amount of translucent printing fluid to use for a successive printing operation.

According to one example, there is provided a printing system. The printing system comprises a print engine to print a print job on media in a print zone, a heating module to apply heat to media in a heating zone and a media handling system to move media through a media path comprising the print zone and the heating zone. The system further comprises a controller to determine when a printing operation is stopped, and when it is so determined to control the heating module to stop heating and to control the media handling system to continue advancing media through the media path until a predetermined condition is met.

In one example, an apparatus is described, which includes a platen locating the print medium, at least one printhead for marking on the print medium, a carriage holding the at least one printhead, a sensor at least partially mounted to the carriage to measure a printhead-to-platen spacing (PPS) along scanning axis during scanning, and an integrated circuit including a dynamic compensation module and a PPS analysis module to delay firing of printing fluid drops from the at least one printhead to compensate platen defects based on the measured PPS.

According to one example there is provided a method of adjusting a support structure. The method comprises obtaining a reference orientation of the support structure when the support structure is positioned in a reference position. The height of the support structure is adjusted to a predetermined position and the orientation of the support structure is adjusted such that the orientation of the support structure when in the predetermined position is substantially the same as the reference orientation.

A method includes identifying at least one of a type of a respective media to be printed on in the print zone and respective densities of portions of the image by an identification module. The method also includes independently adjusting a respective target curing temperature of each one of a plurality of heating modules disposed across the media transport path in a first direction to form the heating zone based on the at least one of the type of the respective media and the respective densities of the portions of the image identified by the identification module by a temperature adjustment module.

Selectively heating a heating zone of a printing system

A drive signal may be determined to drive a printhead to a series of target temperatures during respective portions of a print pass by the printhead. Each of the target temperatures may be the greater of a temperature of the printhead caused by printing a quantity of printing fluid to be printed during the respective portion and a predetermined threshold temperature. A drive signal may be provided to warm the printhead to the series of target temperatures during the respective portions of the print pass.

Ink drying apparatus and method for controlling ink drying apparatus are described herein. An example ink drying apparatus includes first and second heating elements positioned adjacent a drying area in a printer, and a controller to determine a temperature of the heating area and to selectively operate, based on the temperature determination, the first heating element in a burst mode and the second heating element in an on/off mode.
